Our good friends the Turks have always been coming to our rescue. Remember, it was Denctash, Erdogan and Gul who saved us from the Annan Plan 2 in Dec. 2002.
Now they are about to save us fron the "Christofias Plan", thank God.

Unfortunately your first statement is likely to preclude the second.

She probably assumes that everyone else is also sitting on the "Hellenic" fence!

Even though the year is 2011 some people just don’t seem to get that many of us have never had anything to do with Greece and never will…

Haha! Your stance sounds hollow GR! You are not among any "many" (surely mostly Turk/TCs?) that have nothing to do with Greece. And prepare yourself for just quite how much we shall have to do with our greatest ally Greece now, in the near and distant future. :)

In Cyprus there seems to be a misunderstanding on what constitutes an ally, because having similar tastes in food, music, and religion, with another country doesn’t equate to an alliance!

In fact, this gross miscalculation led to the costly Greek invasion and overthrow of the Cypriot government in 1974! The repercussions to which are still with us today, so I’d be VERY careful whom I call an “ally” if I were you… lest we foolishly fall into the same or similar trap a second time!

The junta was never our ally nor was it the ally of Greece or any of its people. We fought against the junta, together, on Cyprus and in Greece to finally get rid of them. Now we are united against the Turks.

Modern Greece has more or less defined itself as a partial victory over the Ottoman empire. To identify with Greek culture is to be Greek in my opinion. It's a bit like being Jewish I suppose (I wouldn't know for sure!). If you speak Greek as a first language, uphold Greek traditions, then you're more Greek than anything else. If I went and lived on Mars but kept to Greek traditions would I be a Martian? Of course not, I would be Greek.

It's the same with the vast majority of 'cypriots'. They are Greek, not cypriot. The same with the cretans, they are Greek. I don't see anything wrong with the 'Megai idea' in principle. The problem is at what cost do we pursue this idea? If we resort to murder of those that stand in our way, then thats too heavy a price. If regions with devolved power vote for the creation of a greater Greece then that's acceptable and should be acceptable to everyone.

I personally think the BBF is a bad set of solution parameters as it entrenches division. The UN has many resolutions on Cyprus calling for the Turkish army to withdraw yet these are not referred to. The Greek Cypriot leadership seems scared to up the ante while the so-called Turkish Cypriot representatives keep pulling the terms of the agreement closer and closer and closer to what they want (not partition, but total control of Cyprus). Don't under-estimate the colonial mentality, both from the Brits and the Turks. I recently had a Turkish Cypriot (who seemed pretty moderate in his views) tell me how great Ataturk was and that Cyprus was 'originally' Venetian. He obviously had that thrown back in his face.

Apologies if I've gone off topic, I'm new at contributing to this forum.
