I voted yes to change. I love the current anthem and I'm not fond of Turkish politics but I want a national anthem that's better then the existing one. I don't want politics to have anything to do with the new anthem, i just want it to be one of the best national anthems in the world. I want people to be gobsmacked at football stadiums when they hear the new Cyprus anthem, I want people to drop their jaws in desbelif in how awesome the new Cypriot anthem is. I want foregin nationals to listen to the new Cyprus anthem and demand from their politicians that they change to something as awesome (even if it's not really possible).

I want the Cyprus anthem to voted number 1 in the poll of the best bets national anthems world wide. I want Al Qaeda to listen to the anthem and drop their weapons. I want prison guards in Guantanamo to listen to the anthem and drop their battons. I want Pakistan and India to listen to the song and settle over Kashmir peacfully. I want people in the streets of Jerusalem to listen to the Cypriot national anthem and to drop on their knees, weep and then both Israelis and Palestinians hug each other and lick tears off one another's faces. I want Hitler to listen to the song and turn in his grave and maybe even cry for all that he did.

I want future little Cypriots kids to listen to our new national anthem and be inspired to create and innovate. I want the national anthem to be the driver of cypriot economy rather then the sun, gas and tourism. I want Cyprus to create books, music and film that makes the national anthem proud.

What language should it be in? It should be in many languages just like the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpeEdMmmQ0. This way the national anthem shouldn't encourage ultra nationalism and instead make it more inspirational for all people. Fuck Greece, Fuck Turkey and fuck all nations of the world. Cyprus will be home to the greatest global cultural revival in human history. Where quality and human values drive people to achieve.

In the meantime we must look back at our history and we say thank you to every nation that has contributed to our gene pool and culture. Thank you but now we're better. We're in a class of our own and we want you all to join us the preeminent and undisputed city upon a hill.

So should the Turkish and Greek cypriots stop hating eachother all of a sudden? Not at all. There are unresolved issues that cannot and should not be resolved anytime soon. I am pro cursing at each other. I'm pro TC looking at Turkey as the homeland and GC's looking to Greece at as the homeland. Hating and dislike of each other should not be concealed because that is our bond.

One "die you fucking Turk" here, another "die you poushto Greek" there is all part of the game. Many people will choose to define their lives in those terms anyway. There are fools and social misfits everywhere. As scienece progresses we understand more and more about how the brain works. More and more conditions have terms and can be diagnosed. No doubt within then next 100 years we'll have better identified the part of our brain responsible for violent ultra nationlistic and ultra marxistic thoughts. We'll have a cure for it where the medicine dampens the neurons in those areas of our psychi.

I want my children to listen to the new Cyprus national anthem and to come up with an idea so wonderful that changes the course of humanity. I wanna say "It wasn't the americans, not it wasn't the swedes either, but it was my son born of this land". Ideas that will drive the quality of life on this island for all... intention is not for others to envy us but for all to see and copy.

I would love nothing more then to say that Cyprus is shit. That would give me a great platform to be critical and assertive. But unfortunately for this post, I cannot, with any integrity, say such a thing.

I watched the Eggman Bagis interview with Aljazeera about EU accession and then I look at the Greek pooliticians. You know something? As bad as we are the world standards are just as low. Cyprus has a good base. The people here have passion and I believe unsparked creativity. If I were to give Cyprus a 3/10 for the sake of being dramatic then I'd have to give all neighbouring countries 2's and 1's.

No nation is politically greater around us. Not israel, not Greece, not Turkey and not the Arab states. Well done to Tunisia it looks like they are making skyrocketing progress and could overtake us soon.

I can't even be dramatic about us (Cypriots) having an opportunity that if we don't grab today then we'll miss-out on forever. That is just a bunch of idealistic nonsense straight out of the polsheviks book in 1917.

We have plenty of time to create the environment needed to foster great cypriot minds to rise and shape our society in a way conducive to all Cypriots. I can feel it as a born Cypriot. I can feel the oppressed talent around me, the creative people and the false dilemmas holding them back.

I am confident that no one cares on here just like I'm confident that Cyprus will find it's great people sooner or later and drive human development forward.

What “pontic Greeks” and green horses are you mumbling about?

Do you see a sovereign country called “Pontia” anywhere on the globe and you want to compare it with the nation of Cyprus?

Idiot!
