If you were to replace religion with this atheism, how would you fill in this huge social void?

Those who need religion should by all means maintain their faith but they should also accept that others can have different beliefs. It is quite evident by now that those who really need religion will continue to be believers and will ignore anything logical and scientific that threatens their blissful ignorance.

:? So is your argument in support of religious tolerance or against religion and the push for atheism?

I forgot to mention, that as a Cypriot nationalist you get this bueatiful ring. Backward Ottoman Remnants will do very well to kiss our ring every day, including HIS Beastitude.

Kissing the Archbishop's ring is illegal in the occupied areas, it probably should be in the RoC!

My argument is that religion should be a personal private choice and not something that should be imposed on the society by the state, e.g. by brainwashing children with a specific religious dogma.

I would personally like to see in Cyprus some form of "enlightenment" where the percentage of religious people stops being so high, but of course this is again something that should be result of personal choice, not something forced by the state.

You're probably an Agnostic and not an Atheist.

Most are. People are not as close minded in most European countries. See this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism

Also I am certain that in most EU countries, western europe at least, the state and educational system is more progressive. I doubt that in most western European countries religious studies are required for all students from the first year until the last. When I was a student (more than a decade ago) we were even required to say a prayer every morning! Are students still required to do that?

UK law provides that in Schools each day shall start with a corporate act of worship.

Is this law actually followed and enforced? I admit I didn't expect this for the UK as overall it seems to be quite progressive country. On the other hand UK does seem to be somewhat backward in some aspects, like still having Queens, Princesses, Lords etc.
