It was primarily thanks to Greece that in Dec. 2002 Cyprus was given an accession date (May 1st 2004) during the Copenhagen Summit, regardless of whether a solution to the CY problem would be reached till then or not, and despite the strong objections (even threats) of the US the UK and Turkey. And it was thanks to the strong support of Greece that Cyprus did become o full EU member in 2004, although the Annan Plan had been rejected by GCs.
Therefore, it is thanks to Greece that Cypriots (including you) enjoy today the status and the safety of equal EU citizens with a very promising future ahead.
Are you sure all of that is an advantage? Doesn't seem to be doing much good for Greece!
That is the fault of the politicians not the EU.
Likewise, the fact that the economy of CY is in bad state today has two reasons. I. Christofias received 500m surplus from Papadopoulos and turned it into about 2,5 bil. deficit ut to just before tye Mari disaster.
2. After that disaster the deficit has increased by anothe 2bil. at least.
Imagine where CY would be today without the EU. Do you believe CY would be drilling for gas today if it was not an EU member? Hardly.
And by the way. According to international figures, the deficit and the debt of Greece are NOT between the highest within the EU (always as a percentage of the gross notional income) but rather between the lowest. In fact, the greek figures are close to the german ones. I will post the figures soon as I find them in english (I have them in greek).
Now, why did the stupid greek government chose to apply to the IMF instead of taking advantage of other alternatives it had (such as offered loans from Russia and China) beats me.
You’re obviously an illiterate Greek, who has a very naive view of politics and economics.
The drilling would go as normal without the EU, just as it has done. Is it not noble Energy that is leading the way? As far as I know, the US is not part of the EU. And will Cyprus supply the EU with gas? Would the EU be undermining itself if it somehow prevented the exploration and drilling by this US Company? As usual, your small mind needs to attribute this to the EU, as if to give credit to Greece, because after all, it was Greece who got Cyprus into the EU as you wrongfully stated in your own Greek haze of grandeur. Well, your world is about to be rocked.
As for the macro economics lesson you speak about - please do not post any figures. There is nothing a Greek can teach a Cypriot Nationalist, since you do not know what you talk about. So how can someone like you, who is unknowingly causing damage to your brethren, ever teach someone like me anything? Even if Greece has a slightly lesser debt to GDP ratio, then I will have you know that this is of little significance. What is important is the interest rate on the Government issued bonds. If the Bonds are risky, because of a lower credit rating and bad economic situation, then Greece pays high interest, and if the Bonds are low risk, such as US Bonds, then the interest rate is low (1%).
Now end of lesson.
Back to matters of the soul. You have made your bed, and you will have to lie in it. And be certain that your bed is riddled with lice. Your brain has been brainwashed, your soul corrupted, and there can only be one cure! You must denounce Greece or face the consequences. And you will not be the only one. This forum will become unbearable to you. The dangerous serpent that is Greece, will be exposed, the evil eradicated, and you will be left with much soul searching to be done. We have witnessed Greece undermine Cyprus, almost destroy us, kill us, and now they have done a good job of running their country into the ground.
Free yourself now, and cleanse your spirit from the bile that has corrupted and soiled your body, mind and soul.
Be Cypriot, loud and proud. Do not remain in the gutter but strive for something much greater than you and Greece.
