Turkey Abandons Cyprus Gas Survey Provocations???

Postby bill cobbett » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:54 pm

As posted last night there had been no location reports over 24 hours for the three survey ships and the Clapped Out Sardine Trawler the Piri Reis from marinetraffic.com.

The Bergen Surveyor has reappeared on the AIS system and is currently 50 miles west of Rhodes heading westwards away from CY and seems to heading home.

Here's its current location and track... :D ...

The Bergen Surveyor is the second ship I believe. Norwegian-flagged but owned by French company CGG Veritas:

After doing seismic research in "undisputed areas", it now seems to be heading back to Turkey.

The last Turkish statement on the unidentified third vessel was that "As of Monday morning, a seismic research ship will leave [the Mediterranean port city of] Antalya to conduct three-dimensional exploration over the course of 40 days in a 1,100-kilometer zone.” .

The Koca Piri Reis is currently "out of range".

Yes, the Bergen Surveyor is as owned and listed as H says above.

The owners CGGVeritas are a top level survey company, listed on Paris and NY Stock Exchanges and from their website they place an extremely high importance on operating ethically.

... and for the techies, there is a pretty comprehensive section there on surveying. Fascinating stuff with air guns and hydrophones at the ends of streamers that can be up to 5 miles long for data acquisition and super computer power for the analysis and interpretation.

:D

Well, well...well...well...

The second of Turkey's joke of an attempt to survey the Cyprus EEZ has also taken to its heels.

The Thor Beamer is in the Aegean, just off Icaria, steaming northwards. It's just ahead of the Bergen Surveyor with both ships presumably headed for the Black Sea...

Turkey's provocations seem to have had an undesired effect for Turkey as the Republic now seems very determined to move on quickly to licensing new exploration blocks in its EEZ.

According to Politis, we may only be days away from announcements of the next exploration/drilling permits. The seismic survey work for these were done some months ago, so as with Noble's Homer Ferrington's work in Block 12, this will be exploratory drilling into gas prospects highlighted by the surveys.

I am waiting to hear from bananiot about the next major Cy catastrophe that will be bought upon the Republic as a result of it excercing very legal rights to explore and drill in its own EEZ.

As one cannot trust the Turks I think we may need to still be on alert as they may turn back. Perhaps they'll be back once they deal with their crisis

Bergen Surveyor and its companion Thor Beamer are shown to be directed towards the Dardanelles. Bergen was south of Lesvos around 07.33 hrs today and Thor west of Ikaria at 19.54 hrs yesterday.
The Piri Reis was exactly south of Akrotiri on the 26th at 20.49hrs.
Oceanic Challenger is shown on the map to be going back and forth from east to west just outside the golf of Antalya.
