Anyone been on a guided tour to the north?

Turkish Cypriot guides do not want Greek Cypriot guides to work in the occupied area of Cyprus

Turkish Cypriot daily Vatan (27.10.11) reports that Hasan Karlitas, chairman of the "Turkish Cypriot guides union," in a written statement, said that there is an increase in the number of guided tours from the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus to the occupied area and stressed the need for this issue "to be disciplined".

Karlitas alleged that the Greek Cypriot guides make propaganda when they visit the occupied area of the island with tourist groups and stressed the need to prevent them from doing their job in "north Cyprus".

Karlitas asked also from the Turkish Cypriot Tourist Guides Association (KITREB) to take the necessary decisions and action together with the "ministry of tourism, environment and culture", the "Turkish Cypriot guides union" and the "Turkish Cypriot travel agents' union" in order to find a solution to their problem.

...exactly the story, i visited in 1980-81, probably the same guy, he couldn't speak a word of English, but he could recite so well.

never got to my village, or the Apostle Andrew where they were waiting, but that's another story, having pissed off someone in a Ministry of the RoC; can you stay overnight now, can you have arranged to stay with Greek Cypriots living in the north?

I gotta say, I thought that the events following the sixties was due to racism from Greek speaking Cyp's towards the Turkish speaking Cyp's. Being on this forum however I see so much racism from the Turkish speaking Cyp's. Its a bit disappointing really. On many levels. With so much racism what chance have we got of Unification. Sad for them as they appear to not know what they want.
