This situation is a hair trigger bomb waiting to explode. The Med is saturated with ships.
Kinda reminds me of nightclubs, the more people you cram in, the greater the odds of a fight.
The Russians are crazy, they're not affiliated with NATO or EU so they answer to no one. One stupid move by the T**kish terrorists and we're looking at a crisis.

RIK reports that the Israeli Air Force will be starting exercises over Cyprus tomorrow, that should keep things interesting.

They've never violated CY airspace? This is actually in collaboration with the RoC and they have our permission?

No big secret actually. The Norwegian ships Bergen Surveyor and Thor Beamer have been conducting research for Turkey outside the Gulf of Antalya since early September. I suppose they will now move a bit more to the south. Big Deal.
The Italian OGS Explora had been there for about a month as well, but now sailing back to Italy. (Just type the names of these ships to your browsers to get information about them and about their whereabouts).
The fact is that while Turkey is wasting money in seismic surveys and aimless movements of its navy and air force around the island, CY, after having completed its own surveys since 2003, is now drilling in field 12 and it will soon assign new drilling contracts for other fields to more American, British, French and Russian firms. And before long, gas will start flowing. And CY will be making billions selling it to the EU. Under the protection of the fleets and the air forces of all above countries. And there is nothing Turkey can do about it. I wish it would, though....!

Our old friend the Sardine Trawler Piri Reis seems to be under way again and according to marine traffic.com is in Lebanese waters! Anyone check this please...

Yes, it's doing its "seismic research" half way between Cyprus and Lebanon. Of course it might just be being blown about by strong winds.

A third Norwegian ship, Oceanic Challenger, is now speading with 14,5 knts towards the port of Antalya to join the other two (Bergen Surveyor and Thor Beamer). It was south east of Rodos at about 03.00 this morning. This one is bigger and even has a helipad.
