Report: Israel, Cyprus to hold joint military exercise

The Turkish media reported Saturday that Israel and Cyprus will hold a joint military exercise next week "as means of sending a message of Turkey."

Diplomatic Israeli sources, however, told the Cyprus Mail website that the maneuvers were "a routine exercise between allies," adding that they were devoid of any political message. Still, the Turkish media maintained that Israel and Cyprus wish to relay "a menacing message" to Ankara, following its enhanced military presence in the eastern Mediterranean. (Ynet)

"a routine exercise between allies"

Anyone know if this "routine exercise between allies" has ever happened before?

Herm, you seemed to have missed the interpretation here.

Israel does routine exercises with allies.

They didn't say which allies

By Default Israel now confirms we (RoC) are allies

And so exercises can take place.

What business it is of Turkeys what we do on our own legitimate soil or air.

Report: Israel-Cyprus exercises routine, not political

Israel-Cyprus collaboration in military exercises in Cyprus's airspace are "routine for the Israeli military and there is no political agenda behind this," clarified the Israeli embassy on Thursday, according to newspaper Cyprus Mail.

The statement follows a report in the Phileleftheros newspaper that Israel and Greece were holding the joint exercises in order to send a message to Turkey.

Another thing that is pretty routine for the Israelis is this....

That way, the TA won't need any life jackets as they withdraw/depart....

But Israel is committing crimes against humanitie! You immediately cancel yourselves out when you talk about morals and a especially a just solution to the Cyprob. And, betwen us, there is nothing more moronic than minnows dreaming of glorious victories in the military field. With or without GR, the Israeli hater.

Cap, I am criticizing the hypocrisy of all you lot, who suddenly have switched allegiance and from fervent supporters of the Palestinian cause to a pro Israeli stance. There is nothing moral in this u-turn but a cynical approach to an issue in our neighbourhood and this says a lot about our intentions. We are not worth the air we breath, this is how I feel. Sickening ...

There is going to be another crime against humanity if you don't shut it.

Look mate, I'm a pirate, and hence a dishonest man, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. I mean honestly, it's the honest ones you need to look out for, because you never know when they are going to do something incredibly stupid......

Now, who told you that it is the Israelis that lack morals? Ask others and they will tell you that it is the Palestinians that may lack morals. This is highly subjective in my opinion, because on the one hand you have the Israeli's, hell-bent on survival against many nations that would be keen to wipe the floor with them and on the other you have the Palestinians, also trying to survive. You tell me where the morals lie, because I can mount a very good argument either way. Yes, the colonization of the West Bank is immoral, but so are the daily terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.

But Israel is now our ally, and we can try and moderate their stance by abiding by certain morals we withhold. Cyprus would not be the only one. Israel enjoys the support of many nations in the West, and many times these very allies have had differences in opinion with Israel. I guess you need to give the Israelis some credit, because they will accept a tongue lashing from their friends, without chucking an immature tantrum like Turkey does. You tell me if you can do this with Turkey, or even Iran? You can't, because, well I hate to say it mate, but they don't seem to be all there if you know what I mean - kind of like 2 Rum bottles short of a six pack.

Now as to this war. Well, Turkey it appears has lost. The tables are turning in our favor. They talked it up against Cyprus and Israel, even threatened both with war if drilling commences, and now they have been reduced to trolling for sardines and making kebab doners. Hilarious!

The war is lost Bananiot. Where is Turkey with its war threats against Cyprus? If they want a war, then let them attack. Who do you think will win that one? Turkey or Cyprus? Do you think the EU, Israel, and hence the US and others are going to allow Turkey to do such a thing? The Turks will be annihilated, because Europe and Israel want the gas, and they will not rely on Turkey or Russia to stay warm in winter. That's right Bananiot, Cyprus and Israel hold the Joker and the Ace of Spades.

So all Christofias needs to do now, is hold it together until the next election so that the people can elect someone more competent.

And Greece should take note. Look at Israel and see how it is done. In the state you're in now, you have nothing to lose, so call Turkey's bluff, and tell them to bugger off with their Casus Belli and claim your EEZ with Cyprus and extend your territorial waters out to 12nms.

They too should not have any fear, for they are armed to the tilt and more than capable.

The Israelis know how to do it, and Greece needs to learn!

Turkey has lost Bananiot, but they will have plenty of sardines!

You are no doubt aware that Israel has many friends and allies in the West many of whom also support the case for Palestinian statehood. Why should Cyprus be any different? Of course Turkey would prefer it if the Republic of Cyprus made no strategic alliances and was therefore at the total mercy of Turkish designs on the island. A Cypriot strategic alliance with Israel makes perfect sense given the changing power balance and potential discoveries of natural gas and oil in the region. It also gives the Cypriots access and support via the powerful Israeli diplomatic lobby. You would have to be nuts to think that closer relations with Israel and by extension the US isn't in Cyprus's long-term interest. Or would you rather Cyprus was vulnerable, weak and isolated?
