Whilst I agree entirely with the sentiment the terminology is all wrong, excuse me for being pedantic but it is so frustrating to read the same incorrect phraseology over and over again.

“The arrest and detention of these three men is a clear breach of their human rights. They should be released immediately. By retaining a legal prohibition on homosexuality, Northern Cyprus shames the continent of Europe. That gay men can still face imprisonment for up to five years within Europe is a salutary reminder than the struggle against discrimination and prejudice continues on every continent and we cannot afford to lower our guard.”
Firstly the TRNC is an illegal entity not recognized by any nation except Turkey and the so called Northern Cyprus, the occupied north has excluded itself from Europe. Therefore, this is a condemnation not of Europe but of Turkey and Turkish Cypriot law. Mr Price needs to understand the situation properly before shouting out but I am truly grateful to him for raising the profile of Cyprus and turning sentiment against the illegal TRNC by exposing their attitudes to human rights.
