Look boys and girls, let's not fall out over this one and for those who are uncomfortable with people being perfectly at liberty to choose and practise their sexuality...

Turkey and its Illegal Regime have, rather like the oil/gas business, backed themselves in to a corner with this homophobia which is drawing international interest.

Those same Articles of the ECHR and other international conventions which have held us in such good stead over the years also recognise the rights to such things as respect and privacy for the individual when it comes to these things and human rights are universal, they apply to all no matter what relationship choices they make.

So pleeeeeese, beseech you, get back on to respect for the human rights of all, not just cos it's a worthy approach in its own right, but cos the Illegal Regime is very, very vulnerable in this matter and if you can't, then bite your tongues for a few days so that those of us who are focused on the National Struggle can expose another example of the intolerance, the apartheid, the lack of respect for human rights of the Occupation.

Bill C has a point. The 'TRNC' aren't winning any friends over this:

North slammed for illegal arrests

MEMBERS OF the European Parliament yesterday called for the immediate release of Cypriot former Finance Minister Michalis Sarris and six others, in the north under antiquated homosexual laws.
In a signed statement several MEPs said the laws were a breach of the binding European Convention on Human Rights and international laws on the right to privacy.

At the same time the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA-Europe) sent a letter to Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu to demand the immediate end to arbitrary detention and prosecution of men suspected of having engaged in consensual adult same-sex sexual activity.

ILGA-Europe said it had already expressed its concern and similar demands on numerous occasions with regard to the ‘TRNC’ criminal code, which contains the only article in European national law that still criminalises consensual adult male same-sex sexual activity.

The issue was also raised last December at a meeting between ILGA and the Turkish Cypriot ‘parliament speaker’, during which ILGA said it was informed that Article 171 was no longer enforced even though it had not yet been officially removed from the statutes. It would be done in the near future, however, he promised.

“In spite of this promise, and in spite of the fact that this Article is in direct breach of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights as indicated in the judgements of the European Court of Human Rights and Article 17 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus has continued to arbitrarily arrest and prosecute men who are suspected of having engaged in consensual adult same-sex sexual activity,” the ILGA letter said.

if this needs to be explained, than their only use in the national struggle is as cannon fodder.

Yes, this is creating some international interest.

As those of us here in the U.S. continue our fight for things like marriage equality and employment nondiscrimination laws, we should remember that are LGBT brothers in sisters in other places are still fighting for the right not to be arrested.

The European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBT Rights reports that three men in Northern Cyprus, which is under the control of Turkey, have been arrested and jailed for more than five days now for “conspiring to have a sexual intercourse against the order of nature.”

If the men are convicted, they could be imprisoned for up to five years.

According to the Intergroup on LGBT Rights, one of the men is former Cyprus Finance Minister Dr. Michael Sarris. The other two were not named.

The Intergroup on LGBT Rights notes that Northern Cyprus is the only remaining territory in Europe where homosexuality is illegal, and that laws criminalizing homosexuality are a breach of the “European Convention on Human Rights,” which is in force in Cyprus.

Eleni Theocharous and Ioannis Kasoulides, Cypriot members of the European Parliament have called for the men’s immediate release, saying in a written statement that “Consenting adults have the right to engage in sexual intercourse with people of the same sex.”

Michael Cashman, another member of the European Parliament and president of the Intergroup on LGBT Rights, added, “The criminalisation of homosexuality has no place in the 21st century.”

Oh stop it the lot of you and especially that half-brained nincompoop BillC!

The Sarris debacle isn’t about homosexuality but about a Cypriot politician who saw fit to cross to the illegally occupied territory of Cyprus to engage in pedophilia!

Sarris’ actions are treasonous to the nation and criminal to humanity!

He’s a disgusting and irresponsible individual who should be arrested and face trial as soon as he enters the free areas. At the very least he should be stripped of political office.
