Freeze EU Aid To Turkey

Postby bill cobbett » Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:50 pm

We hear again today of more threats and military movements from Turkey against member state of the EU Cyprus.

On top of the Occupation by Turkey, we have seen outrageous threats and interference against CY's right to prospect for Europe's Oil in its waters in recent months.

Turkey has made lamentable progress to meet the entry criteria of the Copenhagen Protocol and amongst other things still imprisons journalists and fails to respect the human rights of the good Kurdish people.

Turkey still refuses to open ports and airspace to Cyprus traffic and for months has said it will suspend and freeze its relationships with the EU when Cyprus takes over the EU Presidency for 6 months next Summer.

Time for the EU to freeze the EU's harmonisation aid to Turkey. It's intolerable that EU tax-payers should give Begging-Bowl Turkey any more of their hard-earned money.

Turkey tops the list for recipients of EU aid... (2009 figures)...

bill I totally agree with you, we need to stop aid and discussions. The British have been the instigators of what has happened to Cyprus and probably the biggest supporters of this barbaric nations and its leadership.

It will be interesting to see what response the EU will give when Cyprus does take the Presidency and Turkey does not recognise it.

I have a feeling that the EU is sneaky and they are waiting to see exactly what comes out of the seabed. I think they are playing it safe. If there is substantial oil and gas reserves to secure their economic future, they may throw their overdue support behind Cyprus.

Interesting. The aid that the EU gives to Turkey is roughly the same as the amount that Turkey spends on maintaining the occupation of northern Cyprus. It's time that economic pressure was put on Turkey to end its barbaric occupation of an EU member state.

Yes, Oil/Gas/Energy is deffo King, and also yes, did notice that the yearly EU Aid to Turkey is approx the annual cost to Turkey of the Occupation.
