Turkish Cypriot School opens in Limassol

Postby Piratis » Sun Sep 04, 2005 1:02 pm

According to politis news the Turkish Cypriot school will operate from this year with 2 Turkish Cypriot teachers and 1 Greek Cypriot teacher with knowledge of turkish language.

Better late than never. I hope there will be enough demand from the TC students for this school so there will be more such schools in all towns.

How many students in this school? 3 teachers seems too little. Is it just elementary school?

it is a good initiative..i hope that it is cypriot one and not bcoz EU or someone else put pressure for this. Turkish Cypriots shall be treated as equals and this starts from education.

Sotos, I think the first year there will not be many students thats why there are only 3 teachers.

I know that there are many "high class" TCs that sent there kids to the English School in the free areas. I think the government can make better schools in Turkish not only for those that live in the free areas but also for those living in the occupied areas.

In Limassol they are about 500-600. Put together with those in the rest of the cities they are around 800. If the Gypsies are also added, which are also regarded as members of the TC community, then the total number is around 2,000+. The Gypsies live in groups in various TC villages, mainly of Pafos area.

In Cyprus who have 4 main sub-groups of gypsies. The 3 are Moslem and they joined the TC community, the other one is Christians and they joined the GC community. These groups are called, Khilinjirioi, Khouroupettioi, Khouloufioi and finally the Mandies who are the Christian group.

Exiting! :)
