Kikapu, i am surprised, no kidding.

To get rid of Erdogan, it would help for Turkey to suffer very badly economically, for the Turks to wake up that their country is going backwards with Erdogan. When people hurt badly economically, is when they decide to change leadership, even by the most ignorant and the uneducated in Turkey, which happens to be the majority. The question is of course, are there any good alternative leaders in Turkey to replace Erdogan? Turkey in general is a corrupt country, that goes from the very top to the common man on the street, so just replacing Erdogan, it will not make Turkey have the same values as the EU, hence the reason why Tukey will not make it into the EU anytime in this century.

I agree with what you are saying Kiks. It seems to me that a course of events has been triggered which may lead to some kind of economic embargoe or lifting of the customs union later down the line. I am waiting for Erdogan to screw up by pivoting towards the Shanghai 5 and declaring north Cyprus as Turkey or flood the EU with migrants or some sh..like that.

Cancelling the Custom Union would be one way to hit Erdogan but Europe has too much invested in, for example, in car manufacturing in Turkey. I doubt EU investors in that country would be too happy to see tariffs imposed on Turkey's exports.

maybe, but then the exchange rate will f them anyway when they try to get their money back in the euro to the EU.

Absolutely disgusting!

Proposing legalising child rape.

In Turkey, backbenchers of the ruling AK party have proposed that child rapists be allowed out of jail on the condition that they marry their victims, a scheme that will supposedly allow girls under the age of 16 to be “reunified” with the men who abused them as a family unit. When I first heard the news, I started sobbing and couldn’t stop. I kept thinking about all the girls who would go through what I had gone through. I couldn’t imagine this becoming legal.

I feel ashamed of being a Turk. It is awful enough that the rape of children happens; but now they have tried to legalise it.

“We are separating the values on which the European Parliament was established and this decision because these values are, like the founding fathers of Europe said, democracy and the state of law. But today members of the European Parliament have shown an attitude that clashed with its own values to a country that has defended its democracy to the death,” said Çelik.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also said on Nov. 23 said the vote was worthless while accusing Europe of taking the side of “terror organizations.”

Meanwhile, Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy leader Öztürk Yılmaz said the decision paved the way for Turkey to become a “one-man regime” and reiterated his party’s continued support for the continuation of the negotiations.

“The decision, within the given circumstances that Turkey is in, is not a decision to help Turkey in its democratic struggle. On the contrary, it is a decision that paves the way for the government to continue on its own path,” Yılmaz said Nov. 24.

“They [EP] give the government leverage in the executive presidency debate so that the European Union cannot be a part of it. We think this is wrong. This decision is not legally binding; it is a political decision,” he said.

Not when they have invaded a sovereign territory without a UN mandate. They're on their own.
