Turkey will not open negotiation chapters with the EU during the Greek Cyprus’ term presidency in the second half of 2012, Turkey’s EU Minister and chief negotiator Egemen Bağış reiterated over the weekend.
“If the Greek Cypriots want to open a chapter with us, we will give them a date after their presidency is over, and open the chapter then. In the meantime, our relations with the commission, Parliament and EU member countries will continue the same,” Bağış said in an interview with the private NTV news channel. Turkey has already said on numerous occasions that it would suspend its ties with the EU term presidency if Greek Cyprus drags its feet in finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem before July 1, the date when the country assumes the presidency. Reunification talks between Turkish and Greek Cypriots seem to be deadlocked due to Greek Cypriots’ resistance. “We don’t have relations with Greek Cyprus today, so we’re not going to start one just because someone appointed them as president,” Bağış said.

Bagis also said he had once likened the EU to a dietician whose health was getting worse day by day, but said he now saw that EU also was experiencing “mental problems” as well.
Bagis is to pay a visit to the occupied area of Cyprus on Sunday.

Wouldn’t it be great if students were allowed to write their own school reports? Or if hundreds of thousands of civil service aspirants just ignored the public sector recruitment exams, declared their own grades and places themselves in jobs of their liking?
The statement from our dear friend European Union Minister Egemen Bağış, that Turkey couldn’t care less what the EU progress report on Turkey said, what would be important for Turkey is the report it will issue for itself at the end of the year, was very much like the effort of a spoiled student to write his own school report card, as if it would mean anything to anyone. Once, 30 years ago, together with some friends, I tried in vain to convince our Russian literature professor at university that since we are all equals, perhaps we should decide together what questions would to be asked on the examination. The professor was unfortunately uncooperative, and we failed, but it would have been great.

This smartarse doesn't think too much of the "trnc" economy either VP. No doubt the "impertenent" Greek Cypriots are to blame.
