Bagis’s Mad Conspiracy theory:

Turkey Protests a Conspiracy Planned via Twitter, Bagis Says

Anti-government protests in Istanbul were co-ordinated by unknown groups in Europe using social media, Turkey’s European Union negotiator Egemen Bagis said. The groups set up 20 Twitter accounts in “various European capitals” about six months ago and used them to send messages to Turkish intellectual and cultural figures, Bagis said at a private equity conference in Istanbul today. The speed with which the protests escalated showed that they were planned in advance, he said.

The protests turned violent after someone burned down the protesters’ tents in Istanbul’s Gezi Park, Bagis said. Hashtags, used on Twitter to organize postings on a specific subject, were created three days before that occurred while banners with identical messages were printed on short notice, he said. Logistics tents with “water and lots of beer” were established within hours, Bagis said. He said his experience as a former community organizer told him that creating an event of such a scale on such short notice was “impossible.” Bagis declined to say who the groups behind the alleged conspiracy were, saying only that they wouldn’t destabilize Turkey’s economy.

A sad day for Turkish comedy:

Turkey’s EU Minister Bağış signals end of his term

Turkey’s European Union Minister Egemn Bağış gave a cryptic speech July 15 during his annual iftar dinner, stating this may be his last iftar as “the EU Minister,” according to daily Hurriyet.

“This perhaps is my last iftar with you as the EU Minister,” Bağış said, adding that he would continue to work within the accession process no matter what his future titles would be.

When asked about reporters whether or not he was signaling the end of his term, Bağış said, “You never know what tomorrow brings.”

Bağış has been one of the most sensational names of the ruling party government, often making headlines with his remarks towards both national and international figures.

Thanks to Maximus for drawing my attention to Bagis the Clown's letter to the New York Times. A comic masterpiece:

Turkey’s Democratic Path

Just days after your editorial “Turkey undermines its bid to join the E.U.” (June 26), the E.U. decided to resume talks with Turkey by opening the Regional Policy Chapter to negotiations. We welcome this decision. Yet criticism by some European officials on issues related to human rights, democracy and rule of law are not very convincing at a time when those issues cannot be discussed under negotiations due to the lack of consensus among member states. The E.U.’s leverage in Turkey’s political reform process and its credibility in Turkey have been weakened as a result of increasing politicization of the negotiation process by some member states.

Unquestionably, Turkey has been undertaking the necessary steps for further democratization by expanding the rights and liberties of its citizens. During the A.K.P.’s rule over the last decade, millions of people have moved into middle class. Socioeconomic transformation has been going hand in hand with democratization. People with different issues started to claim their rights as a consequence of this enormous socioeconomic change. If there is one major reason behind the recent peaceful protests, it is because a vibrant civil society has flourished in Turkey, thanks to the opportunities we have provided to our people. Besides, be it for environmental issues or individual freedoms, protesting against a democratically elected government without resorting to violence I believe proves Turkish society’s European identity.

Turkish people from all walks of life have opted for the A.K.P. in the last three elections because people from different backgrounds had the chance to express themselves more openly. We, as the government, will continue to ensure the sustainability of a democratic environment as in other European democracies, where different voices can be heard in a peaceful manner.

Egemen Bagis, Ankara

The writer is Turkish minister for E.U. affairs and chief negotiator (and a big Clown). :D

Ok boys and girls, I thought this thread would be appropriate to post this because THIS GUY has the potential to give Bagis a run for his money.

“Female and male students live in dorms above another. They use the same stairs to go to rest. They use the same stairs to go to sleep, and believe me; this has been keeping me very worried for the past two years,” Tamer Kırbaç,the provincial education director in Trabzon said Aug. 1, according to daily Cumhuriyet.

Forgive them, for they know not, they are just fucking turks.

Ha Ha you couldn't make this shit up, maybe they should partition turkey one side for the men and one for the women. :)

With all these comments flying around recently from ministers and other government officials just goes to show the backward 3rd world medival mentality still prevalent in the Turk.

God help Cyprus against this shit.
