The Turkish Minister for Transport Binali Yıldırım gave a special interview to Bayrak Haber while on his visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He gave news of new road work projects in the TRNC.
The Turkish Minister for Transport Binali Yıldırım gave news that a 255 kilometer dual carriageway and a brand new 145 kilometer road will be built in the TRNC.
‘Ongoing road works around the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be completed in the year 2012’ said Mr. Yıldırım.
Referring to the Ercan Airport the Turkish Minister for Transport said that Ercan Airport will be turned into an airport just like the Istanbul Ataturk or the Ankara Esenboğa Airport.
Asked his views regarding the Ercan Airport’s build, operate transfer model, Mr. Yıldırım said that the airport was incapable of meeting the needs of the increase of air traffic in the TRNC.
In order for Ercan Airport to meet the needs of air traffic, it needs to become an international airport with a new terminal, ramp, passenger boarding bridges and a second runway.
