As part of the pre-accession process, candidate countries for EU membership are given multi-million euro EU grants to bring them up to speed with the existing EU countries.
In the case of Turkey, these are the figures it has received from the EU in each year since 2004...
2004... 250 Million Euros
2005... 300 Million Euros
2006... 500 Million Euros
2007... 497 Million Euros
2008... 539 Million Euros
2009... 567 Million Euros
2010... 654 Million Euros
So up to last year that is a total gift to Turkey from EU funds of in excess of 3 Billion Euros!
3 Billion Euros of European taxpayer's monies to a country that refuses to comply (and it has had long enough) with the Copenhagen Criteria, refuses to open its ports and airspace to all EU member states, that continues to militarily occupy one-third of the territory of a member-state and which in the last few weeks has threatened a member-state duly exercising its sovereign right to explore for natural resources within its EEZ with more military action, an act which threatens a possible future reliable source of oil and gas for Europe.
3 Billion Euros of our hard-earned money to the region's trouble-maker, a country that has no real intention of joining Europe, a country that is milking us for all it can get... What a scam! ... and that plunker the EU's Enlargement Commissioner the Fool Fule let's them get away with it... bleeding deplorable.
