100,000 Turkish Cypriots have Cyprus passports

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

100,000 Turkish Cypriots have Cyprus passports

Postby Hermes » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:34 am

Turkish Cypriot daily Yeni Duzen (07.10.11) reports that the Turkish press referred yesterday to the passports of the Republic of Cyprus which Turkish Cypriots are granted. The paper writes that the self-styled minister of foreign affairs Huseyin Ozgurgun stated at the Turkish Grand National Assembly's (TBMM) committee on foreign affairs, that 100 thousand Turkish Cypriots are holders of passports of the Republic of Cyprus. Yeni Duzen reports that this was assessed as "dangerous development" in the Turkish press.

Citing information published in Turkish Milliyet, Yeni Duzen reports that Ozgurgun "noted that the number of those who have taken Greek Cypriot passport [Tr. Note: as the passport of the Republic of Cyprus is described] is around 100 thousands in the TRNC, the population of which is close to 400 thousands, and expressed his concern saying: 'the Greek Cypriots deceive our young people, the Turkish Cypriots with the passport'"....

Asked whether the interest of the young people for the Cyprus problem has decreased, Ozgurgun alleged that the Greek Cypriots, as he described the Republic of Cyprus, use the advantage of being member of the European Union to attract especially young Turkish Cypriots and make them "Greek Cypriot citizens". Claiming that the Turkish Cypriots are deceived in this manner, Ozgurgun noted that especially young Turkish Cypriot students and unemployed persons use the passport of the Republic of Cyprus to go to Europe for studying or finding a job....

Meanwhile, writing in Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar (07.10.11), columnist Rasih Resat wonders why it was necessary for Ozgurgun to say at TBBM's foreign affairs committee that 100 thousand Turkish Cypriots have passports of the Republic of Cyprus. Noting that perhaps more than 100 thousand Turkish Cypriots have taken this passport which is not a Greek Cypriot passport, but passport of the Republic of Cyprus, Resat writes, inter alia, the following:

"They have taken it as an existing advantage and they use it as such. Moreover, those who do not have passport of the Republic of Cyprus should ask one from those who have and take a look at it. Three languages are used in it: English, Greek and Turkish.

It should not be forgotten that the Turkish Cypriots have rights in the republic called Republic of Cyprus. It should not be forgotten because it is thanks to the rights in this republic called the Republic of Cyprus that Turkey and the TRNC are right in exploring for oil and natural gas in the south of Cyprus through TPAO with Piri Reis vessel. Let me state that my reaction on this issue should not be misinterpreted. I do not have such passport".

The way they logikallee deduce should not come as a surprise to anyone. There is something fundementaly wrong with these people. They have a much closer affinity to Pakistanis than europeans.

Cannot resist to put the question that begs to be asked. If they are right in exploring in the south, they obviously accept we are right in insisting on our rights in the north.

So what is the writer saying? That there is only the RoC? Nope, note this phrase again: "It should not be forgotten because it is thanks to the rights in this republic called the Republic of Cyprus that Turkey and the TRNC are right in exploring for oil and natural gas in the south of Cyprus."

This is the Turkish mind at work. Do not be surprised if the writer cannot see the paradox of his vews. He probably sincerely believes that having broken away from the RoC, the TRNC still has rights in it.

We are trying to form a BBF with people who believe such crap. God help us.

it is like a rabid mentality which must be quarantined. There is a risk incorporating this it into a unified government, especially where the said chain of thought is in a position of power and representation of the whole obtained only from an illogical sense of entitlement..........

Nikitas you have gain pointed out some really good points.

The comment I would like to make is, 100,000 TC's recognise that the only legitimate government in Cyprus is the RoC, by possessing RoC passports, they shop and use the medical facilities the Country has to offer, one would beg the question, why don't they legitimise their existence on the Island by returning to their homes and allowing us to do the same. We are living and interacting on daily basis now. Then they can have immediate access to whatever the RoC has to offer.

Ah but my friend, the point is taking, not giving, not even in what outsiders might consider fair give and take.

We heard Erdo himself in July say that there will be no return of territory, no Morphou, no Famagusta. That GCs will be allowed to return only to worship in the north and for nothing else. He had also restated their beloved two state principle. His racism was clear in that speech, referring to GCs as "them" avoiding even the derogatory Rum word.

But when it comes to wealth found in the south then we are full partners. Note that the writer above says the TRNC has rights in the EEZ of the Republic of Cyprus. The Republic of Cyprus which they do not recognise.

We are talking major pissants here. The average TC on the street probably does not think of such things, but TC politicians do.

Even if no gas is found, the exercise will have been useful in revealing that we are dealing with rapacious thieves who still cling to the ways of the Ottomans.

According to statistics released by the Republic of Cyprus in June 2007 and accurate as of May 2007: 49156 Turkish Cypriots currently have Republic of Cyprus passports; 79497 have Republic identity cards and 90920 have Republic birth certificates.

Thanks, Pyrpolizer. It just goes to show that you can't trust statistical claims from the north. The idea that there are 400,000 people living in the north is highly dubious as well.

Still, that's 50,000 TCs with RoC passports out of a population of 90,000.

Be aware that most of those TCs with RoC passports are pro-partitionists like 'our own boy' Halil.

Pro partitionists?

That breed died out the moment it was announced that there may be gas in block 12. Now they are all pro one state.

In the end it is the GCs who will demand partition to end the charade once and for all.
