In 2004, in a letter of mine to www.turkishdailynews.com, (or www.hurriyetdailynews.com), answering to an article of Journalist Ali Birand, I had predicted that this would happen.
I was telling Mr. Birand that he should not "cry" that the TCs were left out “into the cold” after Cyprus joined the EU. Because the real (native) TCs, thanks to the GCs, would be able to take back their Cyprus passports and thus become full and equal EU citizens any time they would decide to. I had added that eventually, it will be the TCs who will kick Turkey out from the north in order to enjoy all the benefits of the efforts of the GCs which resulted to the accession.
Now that, thanks to the GCs, and to the late Tassos Papadopoulos rich recourses have been spotted and are being exploited, everyone can understand that the TCs will have one more reason to speed up the withdrawal of Turkey from the island.
