British Minister for Europe, David Lidington, has said that the Republic of Cyprus has begun exploration drilling for hydrocarbon deposits in its Exclusive Economic Zone, acting on the basis on its sovereign rights. The Minister also said that Britain expresses this position to Turkish officials on every possible occasion.

Full marks also to Theresa Villiers MP for another very supportive statement...

...:the benefits for all communities on the island should drive a solution in Cyprus and stressed that the geopolitics of Cyprus and Israel may be changing with the discovery of significant fossil fuel deposits in the region.

“I believe that such a discovery can be very positive for Europe’s energy security and potentially very positive for the Cyprus economy”, she stressed.

Villiers also underscored that “it is therefore vitally important that the drilling goes ahead and that we can use it as the financial underpinning of a just and lasting solution for the island”

Yes, everyone suddenly wants to defend the sovereignty of the RoC! It's amazing. You'd think British companies were angling for a right to extract Cyprus's oil and gas reserves. All in good time. There's plenty to go round...

Ok, so lets 'tempt' Israel with a little more butter, so as to 'aid' the Jewish lobby into 'encouraging' GB and the US into 'taking care' of the little nasty parasite.

Not at all a surprise. They are so unethical and instrumental they only look out for the benefits to some of the richest families in the UK.

i don't think anyone else should be doing our dirty work.

at some point, with turkey sufficiently weakened, and with the international community's blessing and cover, cypriot forces should march in and liberate the northern part of their country.

it won't be easy, humie; but i don't see any other way. turkey has to be sufficiently weakened; cyprus has to be sufficiently blessed with international support.
