Cyprus will become the richest country in Europe

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Back to the topic...

In his speech during the conference, Economides said that the financial exploitation of the natural gas in Cyprus EEZ will increase the per capita income by 70% during the next ten years and that Cyprus will become the richest country in Europe.

Don't you just love that Cypriot optimism? Does that mean Cyprus will be richer than Luxembourg? That would make us second in the world only to Qatar. Wouldn't that be nice?

The gas discovery really brings into focus the follies of the TCs and the blind alley their leadership and their own greed has led them down. I can't say they never had it coming. The wheels of fate grind slowly but surely.

London, there is not one single TC harmed in any way between 1967 and July 20 1974. This overturns your assertion that GCs planned to eradicate TCs. During the coup days, from July 15 1974 to the invasion and later, not one TC was harmed.

So lay off the bullshit. It does not convince.

As for the oil and gas situatio, it has brought to the surface some realities about Turkey and its plans for the area. Naturally it denies the rights of the RoC, but it also told Lebanon it rejects their demarcation of their EEZ, even though Lebanon and Turkey have no common sea frontier.

Davut's crazy notions of reviving the ottoman empire, while reducing problems with neighbors to zero, two obviously contradictory notions, are in tatters. Erdo is showing his true colors and his schizofrenia is becoming obvious to even casual observers.

The TCs who are still left in Cyprus must be wondering what possessed them to throw in their lot with a nation that regards them as lazy, corrupt and ungrateful while it subsidises brothels and money laundering casinos in their neighborhoods.

Difficult to know where they go from here. AKP bellicosity might play well on the Arab street, but where it counts it looks like Turkey is surrounded by enemies and is openly hostile to its neighbours. A rogue Turkey in opposition to the West is a dangerous prospect - not least for Turkey itself. Baffling that they should tear up their facade and show their true face for all to see. As one analyst remarked, maybe Erdogan and Davutoglu are actually crazy and believe the crap they spout about Turkey being at the "centre of the world".

Prof. Economides really does seem to think that the Cypriot fields will be larger than the Israeli discoveries. He must know something...

The discovered fields of natural gas in Israel are very big while Cyprus, where the first well drilled is currently at 2500 m depth, is expected to have even more quantities of gas.

A fact about natural gas we must keep in mind. Renewable energy sources, like PV panels and wind turbines, must be backed up by quick start power plants which can take up the slack when the sun or wind are not productive. The only quick start plants (able to power up at short notice) available burn natural gas. So the potential revenue is not affected by alternatives, rather it is enhanced by them.

Maybe I should start thinking about moving back to the old place.

This is great news for both Gcs and Tcs as the money will flow to the south and the Tcs will be able to cross, reside for 6 months and get their property back, find work, receive benefits etc as Cypriot nationals. But will it make Turkey leave the north?

I don't think so.

What is becoming increasingly clear is the fact that Turkey doesn't care about the TCs. Turkey just uses them to keep its grubby hands on Cyprus. This is starting to sink in with the TCs as well. And the potential for oil and gas has been a big game changer. The TCs would like to be a part of it, but they are trapped by Turkey.

The smoke and mirror act Turkey is playing with its so called seismic surveys in the RoC EEZ aims to keep the TC element in check and under control, because Turkey fears it may lose control over them. But even if every TC leaves, Turkey will not change its stance unless the oil and gas becomes the catalyst for international pressure and even intervention.

The international pressure is coming from all directions now, but will it lead to intervention? Turkey is now finding out that it will not be able to rely on any support from countries which were behind her over many decades. The Jewish lobby is a powerful creature, and their interests in Cyprus are exponentially increasing on a weekly basis.
