Christofias found guilty?

Postby Sotos » Mon Oct 03, 2011 10:42 am

According to Politis the report of Poliviou about the Mari explosion says that Christofias has direct responsibilities. If this is true will Christofias resign?

Another question is if he SHOULD resign. Many people wanted him to resign long time ago because he screwed up with Mari, with the economy and with the negotiations ... but he also has good relationship with Russia who is about to give us 2.5m loan with low interest and they also support us for natural gas. If Christofias goes will the Russian support be as strong?

It's a pretty damning report and yes he should re-sign. He has undone all the good the previous govenmnet has done and he will continue to do harm to Cyprus. Even offering to negotiate over Cyprus rights to it's own natural resources is ridiculous. The man should not only resign, but should also be held criminally liable for his actions.

Christofias is finished. There is no way he can survive following such a damning verdict:

President Demetris Christofias was responsible for allowing and keeping the dangerous Monchegorsk cargo in Cyprus and for approving their storage at the Evangelos Florakis Naval base in Mari, investigator Polys Polyviou concluded.

"The President of the Republic in this case failed to take elementary measures for the security of Cyprus's citizens. In this case I am not referring just to institutional responsibility. In this case I apportion serious, and very heavy personal responsibility," he said.

Yes its true. the bulk of the blame to Christofias, heavy responsibility laid on Kyprianou.

Christofias should do the right thing and call an early election to let the people decide.

Very damning and couldn't have been more critical sentence...

"The President of the Republic in this case failed to take elementary measures for the security of Cyprus's citizens. In this case I am not referring just to institutional responsibility. In this case I apportion serious, and very heavy personal responsibility,"

Up to you chaps in CY, but think Pres X is left with no choice other than to do the honourable thing and become..... X Pres X.

He has clearly taken Cypriot politics to an all time low.

He has proven himself to be the worst President in the Republic's history.

This headline going around the world from Reuters sums up who gets the blame...

"Independent probe blames Cyprus leader for blast"

Again up to you lot in CY, but if he doesn't go and go soon he should be impeached (if the CY Constitution allows)

Let's remember the thirteen very brave CYs who lost their lives in the devastation.

I don't think this verdict leaves Christofias with any choice or any room for manoeuver. Even Christofias must know the game is up. Pity this episode has taken Kyprianou down as well as I always rated him as a successor. God knows who will stand for President now. Are there any credible alternatives?
