Imagine the horror on the Turkish pilot’s face when an attempt to fire at an Israeli jet results in…

“Error: Enemy target not found!”

…across his display!

The fools have been purchasing Israeli and US hardware since the early 90s, yet today they actually think they can fire against their suppliers who HARDCODE their export microprocessors from being used against them!
Erdogan, should ask Musharaff why the US has been able to conduct drone and other aircraft sorties over Pakistani territory, totally undetected and unhindered despite myriads of Pakistani warnings!

The Americans and Israelis can REMOTELY shut down their export military systems as they please, and they also possess the best radar jamming systems that Erdogan seems clueless about. In an aerial confrontation, Turkey’s best bet of “downing” an Israeli jet is to pray for lightning to strike them!

I won’t even bother to mention nuclear power.

Well, according to turkey, her s/w people have been able to 'reprogram' israel as Foe now.

I just wonder if Israe; s/w has a back door that tells turkey to FO in case of confrontation.

if it ever gets to the point where TAF f16's are trying to lock on Israeli f16's then the party is over for the turks and their occupation of cyprus, needless to say their military will be quickly extinguished. here in the usa jewish lobby groups are trying to brand turkey as a terrorist nation already, with things coming out that al Queda financiers are being protected by the turks......

One cannot reprogram HARDCODED electronics. It's the difference between ROM (Read only memory) and RAM (random access memory).

Unless Turkey is prepared to replace entire mainboards and modify all subsequent PCBs to suit at a huge cost and expertise, I cannot see them overcoming this problem.

BS! I am sure that the recognition systems can be reprogrammed to identify different countries aircraft as friend or foe, the Italians would be in deep shit if they went to war otherwise!

Knowing what crafty buggers the Israelis are, they can probably turn the engines off on the Turkish planes fitted with their kit.

Where is our resident air force expert to give us a definitive answer? Come back Paphitis, all is forgiven!

Do you suppose Israel took no safety measures when they sold to a Muslim country like Turkey?

The manufacturer would be stupid not to hardcode (prearranged and soldered electronic components for a fixed behavior) their military export equipment for their safety/advantage. They can have a list of programmable foes in ROM but THEIR callsigns would be hardcoded.

There were reports of a year ago that the Russian firm Gazprom would be bidding for blocks in CY waters.

More recently...

The support of Moscow to Nicosia for exploitation of the EEZ is by no means accidental. Besides the enduring friendship of the two countries, a “serious game” is unfolding on the background. The Russian state company Gazprom, which is currently the Number 1 player in the international gas market, is interested on securing rights to gas fields in Cyprus. Indeed, according to information from “Kathimerini”, the Russian giant has shown strong interest in two fields, whose rights will be claimed in the second licensing round, expected on early 2012. It is known that the Republic of Cyprus will launch a tender for the remaining fields and also, as “Kathimerini” previously revealed, for 25% of the “Aphrodite” field, whose rights were secured by the U.S. firm Noble Energy in the first licensing round. The exploratory drilling in this field will accurately determine the quality of deposits and whether what is found is exploitable and marketable.

"they actually think they can fire against their suppliers "

I have alwasy wondered how weapon suppliers ensure their safety in the event that their hardware is ever turned against them. After all, the main American combat plane is the F16 which is also used by many air forces around the world, some of which are not such reliable allies.

From actual events I know that suppliers know when routine parts replacement is bypassed by local inventions. In at least one case the supplier of memory boards demanded to know how the buyer was able to continue operating past 800 hours on a certain part.

Of course!

Foolish Erdogan thinks that by adding Israel to his "foes" list (at the user level) his problem is sorted!

Have the Turks tested there modifications? if so, to what extent?

The Turkish air force may be taking a leap of faith. Lockheed Martin will direct them to their warrently disclaimer, particularly the sections relevant to modification and tampering of products.

GPS is an American technology, I am confident that they can partially/turn it off.
