Take the example of a daily occurrence, Turkish jets overfly Agathonisi island. The event lasts a few seconds, the island is tiny. You shoot down the offending jet and it will fall in international waters, and you have zero support from the international community (who supply you with spare prats etc).

not sure greece is in the market for any more spare prats; they being the one natural resource she has in abundance.

And what is the CY community in London doing at the meantime? Sleeping, drinking and farting as usual?

Oh goody, some coverage from Turkish sources of the new proxy CY Airforce defending CY waters...

..."A Turkish seismic research ship which is exploring gas near Cyprus was harassed by two low-flying Israel warplanes and a helicopter on Thursday night, Turkish Vatan daily reported on Friday.

Vatan referred to a story by the Greek Cypriot daily Phileleftheros, which argued that Israel boosted its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean as of Thursday night. The report said the two F-15 jets that took off from Tel Aviv flew through the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot airspaces. The jets reportedly ignored warnings from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) officials and got so close to Turkey's Mediterranean coasts that they could be even seen from Mersin's beaches, the report said. Turkey then reportedly sent two F-16 jets to the area to track the Israeli jets, which then returned to Israel..."

I believe this incident was recorded by video. The jet(s) did indeed ignore the request by the tower that the "airspace" was closed to them.!

What a load of bollocks by NATO SG:

Asked about Turkey’s warning that it might send military ships toward Cyprus, which is exploring for natural gas in the Mediterranean, as is Israel, Mr. Rasmussen said that “NATO as an organization is not going to interfere with these disputes,” while adding, “I do not envisage armed conflict in the eastern part of the Mediterranean.”

Relations with Turkey have to be managed carefully as it asserts a growing role on the global stage, he suggested. “I think Turkey can play a stabilizing role in the region and serve as a role model for countries in the region that are currently transforming from dictatorship into democracy,” he said. Mr. Rasmussen, a former prime minister of Denmark who is now two years into his NATO post, also praised Turkey’s decision to participate in a new missile-defense system for NATO. The government in Ankara has agreed to host on its territory a sophisticated American radar system that will form part of the missile shield.

I think this say's it all Nikitas:

In other words, Turkey is only the next step between brutal authoritarian regimes such as the regimes of Syria, the previous regime in Libya and Egypt. It is the half way house, not a truly westernised European democracy.
