According to two qualitative polls brought to light a fortnight ago by Ant1 and Simerini, some 80% of the people showed their disdain for President Christofias in connection with the Mari blast.
Two more recent polls which were carried out before the drilling started, one by AKEL with a sample of more than 2000 people and another for DISY prepared by Stratos Fanaras show that Demetris Christofias is "going downhill" together with his party AKEL.
The poll of AKEL shows that the party is losing almost all its friends who were not in the hard core of the party and is supported by only 21-22% of the electorate.
According to the DISY poll the power of AKEL is kept down to 19%, while DISY gets 32% of the vote.
Politis writes that the vast crater created by the explosion at Mari buried also Demetris Christofias who was the most popular politician in Cyprus during the last decade. — Copyright © Famagusta Gazette 2011
