OPEN DISCUSSION ON FRIDAY

Postby Bananiot » Thu Sep 01, 2005 10:28 am

A meeting is scheduled to take place in northern Nicosia on Friday September 2 where 3 Greek Cypriot speakers will talk on the theme "The left and the solution to the Cyprus issue". The speakers are: Michalis Papapetrou, Stavros Tompazos and Themos Demetriou. The discussion will be chaired by Niazi Kiziyrek who will also translate. It will take place at a bookshop at 8 pm. I will try to find the address of the place later.

LOL Main source

Other than that, I wonder what Mr. Christofias has to say regarding the "role" of the left in the solution of the Cyprus problem. After all, AKEL is the main leftist party in Cyprus.

Is this Themos Demetriou the civil engineer with the "Jules Verne" styled beard who not so long ago was also the ETEK president? I remember attending a seminar about the reconstruction of Famagusta where he was heavily criticised by the town's refugees because he more or less advocated in favor of bulldozing of the entire place and rebuilding it from scratch with a new plan in the event of its return. His whole approach on the issue seemed brutal, crude, insensitive and far from brilliant.

I now have more info. The meeting will take place in Ginclik Merkezi, I think in Cucuk Kaimakli.

P.S. Some small talk, for the sake of the not so serious. At least, Main_source, you made Othellos lough!

You are right about Themos, yet I have heard many that support his point of view. The matter is psychological probably, thus he should be more ... diplomatic. Of course, by the time Papadopoulos consents to a solutio there will be nothing to erase to the ground ...

Main_Source, you wouldn't say this if you knew who Michalis Papapetrou is. Basically he is something like Bananiot. His party got like 3% in last parliamentary elections, and based on the latest polls in next elections they will not even manage to get the 1.8% required to get a seat in the parliament.

It is ridiculous that these people that represent almost zero think they can represent Cyprus left which is almost 40% of the population.

Being more "diplomatic" in a case like this, to me it sounds like trying to cheat people. I think that every Themos Demetriou on this island (and I am not referring to civil engineers in particular) should stay out of other people's business - and homes - especially when not invited by them to express his opinion.

Some years back, Papadopoulos also tried to form his own party and got even less than what Papapetrou does now. And unlike Papapetrou, Papadopoulos dissolved his party (Enosi Kentrou). Of course, Papadopoulos had a lot more money than what Papapetrou does, plus he has always been thirsty for power. All these made a difference.

Its obvious that the man is power crazy Turk hater playing for another term in office leading his people a merry dance. Why else would an old man with throat cancer still be in politics, not for the money he married rich (his best friends wife I hear, is that right? I take it they are not friends anymore?)and has made enough cash. He should be retired on a beach some where writing a book.
