Predictions come true...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

B25, I agree with you. As a Famagustian I would opt for the gas rather than the return of the city. But the example was given to point out the lack of vision that hounds the Turks. Despite all some people say about their diplomatic corps, they do not seem to be either flexible or intelligent in their diplomacy.

As for the rights of the TCs to the gas and oil, Christofias speaking in London earlier today made it clear that the RoC accepts that they have a right to share in the wealth. He did point out the difference between TCs and the illegal statelet which has no legitimate claims.

As usual, Christophias doesn't know what he is talking about. The Turkish Cypriots unilaterally declared independence, so until their is an agreed deal on a reunited Cyprus they have no right to anything!

To be fair to Chris Toffee arse From what I have read elswhere (Cyprus weekly) he has expressed the POV that the Kibrilisi cannot share the wealth while maintaining the illegal psuedo-state/while under occupation and sharing of resources is conditional on a settlement. That or perhaps he has a better script writer.

Another prediction.....Since Turkey is moving towards being the next Iranian Islamic Republic, and there is no stop in sight, wouldnt it also be in the west's interest to dismantle Turkey, why would they want an Islamic Turkey in their midst, controlling the Dardanelle. Russia has already turned to its gunboat diplomacy supporting Cyprus and sending 2 nuclear submarines to the eastern Med. Unless Turkey and its leaders stop agravating the West and Israel Turkey will go towards the likes of Iraq...Iraq also agravated the West and daily threatened Israel....why wouldnt Turkey's fate follow the same path??

Adendum to my predictions: If Turkey makes the mistake of firing upon an Israeli craft(sea, naval) or challenges Israel in any way, the Cyprus problem will be solved within 1 year....you can bet on that!!!!!

I totally disagree that we should chose gas over Famagusta.
The return of Famagusta to its legal owners will trigger developments that most likely will end up to a solution.
After that we have all the time to take gas out...

And what exactly will be the benefit of getting gas out? Some one billion per year as someone said?? Or Cyprus becoming an important Country for the EU just because we supply them with oil? Both are meaningless to me. The former because they will just use the money to finance an even bigger government machine, the latter because it offers no real benefit.

I always supported what is fair. And in my opinion it would be very unfair towards the Kibrislis to reject an offer that would most probably open the way to a solution.

pyro the problem is not handing back the city but what impact would it have with the illegal settlers...are we going to allow the illegals to work on sites?...

i would rather take the turkish view on this as an overall solution, the tcs will get to share with a solution...no solution no sharing...

also the tcs will get their share, with employment...like everone else...

in 74 durinng the coup the TMT lit a fire on pentadaktylos to guide the Turk ships....they landed in a straight line down the mountain onto 5 mile beach in Kyrenia.....thats how their ships could find Cyprus, I guess there is no beacon to find a platform in the east Med.

Pyro, I have a lot of respect for you, but this time you are wrong. This will not lead to any solution, because Turkey does not want it. With Famagusta (for the few), we have no leveage. The gas will give us the leverage we need and turkey will not be the bully she is playing as there will be other bigger 'friends' behind us. To date Turkey has done what she wants because we do not have the power to deal with her, the balance is now changing. Once we are established and an EU energy centre, we will have the ability to pick and choose.

I would dear love to see Famagusta back in our hands, but who is going to pay for it, the few thousand inhabitants??? I doubt it. First we need a large revenue stream, then we need protection then we can work on getting the whole of Cyprus back for everyone not just the few Famagustians.

Gas/Oil is what is going to shift the evil axis, Turkey.
