...............and you know why, CBBB, it's because the Libyans did not tell Erdogan of the impending arrival of Cameron and Sarkozy in advance before his own arrival. Call it a conspiracy if you like since it was public knowledge that Erdogan was on his way to Libya at least two weeks ago. Muslim brotherhood became secondary between the new Libyan leaders and Erdogan and business dealings with the west and the EU was going to be the primary for the Libyans, as to the reasons why Erdogan was kept in the dark which allowed him the luxury to take his sweet time to tour the Arab countries beating the war drums against Israel, just to boost his own popularity and also build a momentum of his arrival to Libya, for him to be seen as the leader of the Muslims in the region. While he was doing that, Cameron, Sarkozy and the NTC arranged the visit with full security in place, because there is no way in the world where you can get two leaders from two different countries who took part in freeing Libya from Gaddafi, to visit Libya where there is fighting still going, without advanced arrangements being made to have security in place for their protection. I can assure you that Cameron and Sarkozy did not wake up on Thursday morning and called the NTC and asked if they can come over to Libya for them all to have lunch together and also to get some sun while they are out there. I'm sure the visit was in the making way before Erdogan left Turkey for his Arab 3 states tour, leaving the best for last, Libya. It appears that Erdogan's great intentions has been "ambushed" by the Anglo Franco duo, who has managed to rain on Erdogan's parade, to be held in downtown Tripoli today. This has been the classic case of the "Hare and the Tortoise" race. While Erdogan was "napping" in Egypt and Tunisia, Cameron and Sarkozy crossed the finishing line in Libya first!

Better luck for next time for Erdogan, to be the first one on the ground, when he plans a victory parade downtown Jerusalem, after he destroys Israel in a war that is!

Leaders of France, Britain rush to nab prize in Libya

A massive security operation accompanied the visit, with roadblocks along the road from Metiga airport on Tripoli’s eastern outskirts and the city-center hotel where the two leaders held their talks cordoned off by French-backed local forces. Cameron and Sarkozy were taken by helicopter to the Tripoli Medical Center where they were given a heroes’ welcome for their role in ending Gadhafi’s rule. Jubilant crowds of medical staff thronged forward to shake their hands, chanting: “Thank you, thank you,” as they toured three hospital wards. They later headed for Libya’s second largest city Benghazi, the rebels’ base during the seven-month uprising.

Not a very happy looking Erdogan, or the new hosts of Libya.

Turkey and the Arab world: Reflections from the region
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-14935164

The Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is completing a tour of the three Arab countries that have recently experienced revolutions. Here, people from each of those countries reflect on the tour and Turkey's role in the Arab world.

Erdogan has impressed a lot of Tunisians by standing up for Arabs in foreign policy.

For now Turkey is the leader of the Arab world because there is no-one else to claim the crown.

Over the last few years a lot of Turkish companies have been coming to Tunisia. You can see more and more Turkish products here.

People feel closer to Turkey than to EU countries because it is easier to travel there. Turkey is the only European country for which Tunisians do not need a visa.

Personally I am impressed with the growth in Turkey. I've been to the country several times. I have admiration for how they have helped the poorest.

Erdogan's party has kept the country looking modern and dynamic, and at the same time looking back to its roots in political Islam

In Tunisia there is some concern from secular people about the rise of Islamists. But if the Islamists are like the Turks then we can be reassured.

We are very moderate Muslims and I do not think we have much to learn from Turkey”

End Quote Mohamed Benrasali

Erdogan's visit is important. But the Libyan people have not forgotten that the Turkish government was in two minds about whether to support the revolution. That has not gone down well. I was very hurt by their stance.

So we have mixed feelings, and there is an air of mistrust about their intentions. Turkey has many companies in Libya and we feel they are trying to preserve their interests here.

Can Turkey be an example for us? We are very moderate Muslims and I do not think we have much to learn from Turkey. And for us, Turkey is too secular.

I think a new Arab world is emerging - look at the protests at the Israeli embassy. The Arab people are starting to have a voice. And nobody leads the Arab world but Egypt.

I hope that we will keep ourselves moderate, and keep to Islamic values of peace and reconciliation, truth and fairness.

Turkey offers an example of a country where religion and secularism can co-exist”

End Quote Noha Zaki

Erdogan has a potential role in the Arab world, and has some qualities missing from Arab leaders - such as an ability to communicate.

Turkey can offer a model of a successful secular Muslim state. But the model is the country and not the man. I am worried by people idealising charismatic leaders - they start to follow the person rather than the argument. Egyptians should stop making heroes out of rulers.

Right now in Egypt there is tension between the forces of the revolution, between Islamists and secularists. These tensions will probably continue on the street level for many years.

Turkey offers an example of a country where religion and secularism can co-exist. It shows that you can be secular and still keep your identity and religion.

They can make a positive contribution with trade and investment. That is what I hope for, but of course I don't know what their intentions are. Ankara has a lot to gain in terms of tourism and business opportunities.

Erdoğan: Turkey Stands Hand-in-Hand, Shoulder-to-Shoulder With Libya

http://tripolipost.com/articledetail.asp?c=1&i=6924

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, told Libya that Turkey stands hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder with it. He also hailed the sacrifice of the Libyan people in order to obtain their freedom.

After attending Friday prayers at Tripoli's Martyrs' Square, in a joint news conference with Mustafa Abdul-Jalil at Tripoli's Rixos Hotel, that is a Libyan-Turkish investment project that was refurbished in time for the occasion, Erdoğan expressed support for the Libyans' last battles ahead.

In his final leg of his “Arab Spring” in North Africa that also took in Egypt and Tunisia, Erdoğan, who is accompanied by his foreign minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and many Turkish businessmen, spoke about the Libyan people's "struggle for freedom" and hailed what he called the sacrifices of the Libyan people. "I am happy to have been a witness to the advent of democracy in Libya," he said.

Erdoğan hailed "the memory of martyrs who sacrificed themselves for their country and their religion, as did Omar Mukhtar," the resistance fighter against Italian colonists who was hanged 80 years ago by the Italian military.

"I address myself to Sirte and Bani Walid: embrace your brothers and join other Libyans," Erdogan said, as the fighting in the two strongholds raged.

"Unification in the ranks will help Libyan development and make it one of the best countries in the region," he added.

The Turkish Prime Minster also talked about how the age of tyranny and dictatorship is over, and invited the people of Sirte, one of the last three Al Qathafi strongholds to end the fighting and to “Come and join the party, since there is no reason why you'd stand outside of this. Join your brothers in Tripoli and Benghazi."

Erdoğan said he believed that in their hearts, the people of Sirte also have this support for their movement. “They're just hoping and asking that there is no more delay and no more need for any more blood to be shed so we can hold the kind of meetings that we are holding here in Sirte as well.

He added: “The NTC may encounter difficulties. But Libya belongs to the people of Libya and must continue to belong to the people of Libya and never turn into an Iraq."

Erdoğan told the cheering crowd in Tripoli that they have shown why repression of unrest in Syria will not work. “You are the ones who showed the whole world that no administration can stand in the way of the might and will of the people.”

Erdoğan, who has visited Egypt and Tunisia this week, has been holding up Turkey's blend of Islam and democracy as a model for the movements that have toppled longtime Arab rulers in Tunis, Cairo and Tripoli.

In Tunisia, Erdoğan said that Turkey is a democratic, secular and social state of law. Then went on to say that as for secularism, “a secular state has an equal distance to all religious groups, including Muslim, Christian, Jewish and atheist people.”

He has already won plaudits from Libya's new rulers for his ideas and at the news conference, addressing the press before Erdoğan, the head of the NTC, Abdul-Jalil said Libya hoped to follow on the same lines as Turkey in having a democratic Islamic government.

“We are looking forward to a democratic Islamic country that will make use of the experiments of Turkey. Islam is really able to boost and support the economy and tackle the main elements for the good of the people, Abdul-Jalil said.

Abdul Jalil thanked the brotherly Turkish people for their support throughout the conflict. He said Turkey had a humanitarian and political role especially by evacuating civilians from the coastal town of Misurata when it was besieged by the Al Qathafi forces.

He added that Turkey also stood by the NTC financially, by being one of the the first to provide the council with $300 million in cash, and other aid when it was most needed.

Besides wanting to celebrate with the Libyan people for their success in overthrowing the previous regime and forging ahead towards a new, better future, which he has promised to help the Libyans achieving it, Erdoğan must also be hoping to reap political and economic dividends from Libya's new rulers for his country's help in their struggle to topple the Al Qathafi regime.

Erdoğan promised to help Libya to build new schools, new police stations and hotels as they look towards a new, successful future.

Turkish companies with business in Libya are hoping the NTC will honor pending payments once assets are unfrozen. Turkish contractors provided tens of thousands of construction workers who were involved in the building of 214 projects all over Libya including hospitals, shopping malls and five-star hotels worth more than $15 billion before the start of the rebellion in mid-February that ousted Al Qathafi.

Turkey's bilateral trade with Libya was $2.4 billion in favour of Turkey before the chaos and the two countries had waived travel visas to boost that trade.

Is this the same Erdogan who strongly resisted the NATO-led mission to protect civilians against Muammar al-Qadaffi’s brutality? I think it might be.

Are those the same flags the Turkish authorities distributed to the settlers in the occupied areas when Erdogan recently visited there?
