Greece ups the stakes in oil/gas exploration

Postby CBBB » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:11 pm

Greece plans to offer licences “immediately” for undersea oil and gas exploration in the Ionian Sea off its western coast and also to the south of Crete in a drive to develop domestic energy resources.

Professor Foskolos in an interview with Kriti TV, you can search it on youtube, has said that the oil reserves in the south of Crete, inside Greek territorial waters, not in the EEZ, are likely to dwarf all other reserves in the Mediterranean. He has worked in oil exploration and is a high ranking member of international oil and gas organizations.

As for the Ionian, there are known oil wells in the island of Zakynthos and the western Peloponnese. It would be ironic in many ways, if oil is found in these areas where there can be no dispute of their ownership and they are so close to the final markets via Italy and its national grid of pipelines.

But always expect a malakas to make a token appearance even in these areas. Remember how Tansu Ciller had claimed that Greece cannot unilaterally extend its territorial waters in the Ionian without Turkish permission? She got a reply from the USA then, something that included the word "silly" in it.

Well for Greece's hope I hope they do find oil. Although better to go solar. But at least it will get them out of the shit. I still think billionaiers ought to contribute back to the economy.

Andrea,

The deeper I search into solar and wind power the more fraud and double dealing I find.

While the power companies sell power at 15 cents a KWh, the renewables have guaranteed Feed In Tarrifs of 45 to 55 cents per KWh. How does a power company survive while buying at 55 and selling at 15? Why they tax the wanker consumer in the form of "renewables fees"! And then they say the sun and wind are free. Like hell they are!

Be careful of things that sound too good to be true. They most likely are.

As for the oil in the Ionian sea, it is there OK. In the 80s a company, CHROPI, was extracting oil in Zakynthos and used it to run its factories. Why the area was not explored further is one of those typically Greek stories.
