Cyprus to launch new offshore oil and gas search in 4-6 weeks despite Turkey’s protests

NICOSIA, Cyprus — Cyprus will launch a new licensing round for more exploratory drilling for offshore oil and gas in four to six weeks, an official said Wednesday, a move underscoring its right to search for energy sources which rival Turkey strongly disputes.

The joke of the week: The assertion that oil and gas leases in the East Med are illegal, that resources should be shared equally. Presumably the Turks shared the resources of the Black Sea equally with Russia and the other Black Sea states. Or perhaps they have a secret 50-50 deal for Egyptian gas.

Turkish officials are developing a riotous sense of humor lately.
