Turk threats monitored

Postby humanist » Tue Sep 06, 2011 4:44 am

NICOSIA - The government is following closely developments in the wake of Turkish threats concerning oil and natural gas exploration in Cyprus' exclusive economic zone (EEZ), Minister of Defence Demetris Eliades said on Monday.

Eliades' comments came in response to remarks by Turkish officials as the Houston-based Noble Energy is expected to begin drilling at the end of September. Noble Energy has a concession to look for hydrocarbons in an offshore field in Cyprus' EEZ, south-east of Cyprus, known as Block 12.

''The government, acting in concert with Athens, is monitoring closely developments and takes all necessary actions on all levels as appropriate,'' Eliades said.

On Thursday, Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said that Turkey will not hesitate to deploy warships in the Mediterranean, if the Republic of Cyprus enters Turkish territorial waters during their oil exploration efforts in the Mediterranean.

Speaking to ''Today's Zaman'', Bagis was quoted as saying that Ankara had sent naval vessels to the area in similar cases in the past, adding that “this is what we have the navy for.”

Turkish Cypriots political parties, civil organisations and public also monitoring last events in Cyprus with great patient............while talks are goes on....GC side playing dangerous game again....aren't they realise underground and undersea sources of the Cyprus will be control of the federal Goverment....In this federal goverment there will be TC's as well....without TC's how can u make agreements with third parties..........Yesterday warrings came out again from the TC'S ....this time warning was from Eroglu..........

Eroğlu gave important messages to the Greek Cypriots and the international community regarding the Greek Cypriot Sides’ efforts to explore for oil and natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean.Eroglu has said that the willpower of the TC People has been ignored due to the Exclusive Economic Zone agreements signed between the Greek Cypriot Side and third countries.....that the Turkish Side will give simultaneous responses to any steps that will be taken by Greek Cypriots on the issue of exploration of oil and natural gas in the region.‘The future of the island has been put into under Greek Cypriot domination and these kinds of agreements which are directly related with sovereignty are in a position which would cause a permanent situation for the island’s future’

Also referring to Turkey’s rights in the Mediterranean, TRNC President Eroglu reminded that as a state which has the biggest shores in the northern part of the eastern Mediterranean, Turkey has legitimate rights which are based on international law.

Noting that Greek Cypriots had a negative response to the Turkish Side’s calls for the cancellation of oil and natural gas exploration activities, the TRNC President said “at this point the Turkish Side’s stance is clear on the issue”.

Sorry Halil, but you declared Independence, so unless there is a reunification deal you have no say in anything the RoC does.

Even if reunification takes place, Turkey has nothing to do with any resources between Cyprus and Israel/Lebanon/Egypt. Just because Turkey and a few other states don't recognise the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea is their problem.

4...if it's not ok for the israelis to harass the arabs, who died and put you in charge to harass us?...

5...you created a state, 2 people and all the garbage you've been spewing all this years and mind your own business what the roc does...just worry about assimilation and your disappearance, all of your own making...

5...stop inventing and referring to laws you are not signatory to...BTW has anyone asked the moron errorgluey which international laws he is referring to?...maybe effendi can ask and come and tell us...

this is the best chance the roc has in getting the turks to the ICJ...let them start their ICJ case and them pound them with the same...see what they say and how the squirm...

Sorry CBBB, why both sides are talking for reunification under the BBF solution deal..... at the end of this deal there will be 2 main partners.... than what will happen :?:
Turkey has rights like Israel/Lebanon/Egypt ...etc...etc..... at the moment Lebanon also complaining about it .....Also we must not forget after the agreements there will be referandums at both sides too ...very basicly without oneside will ....nothing is going to work again. Thats why they should first find solution for the Cyprus problem............

Halil demands that the few TCs left become masters in the north and partners in the south.

Halil you have a cheek, you illegally occupy northern Cyprus and this is not enough for you??? What has turkey to do with Cyprus anyway, she should sod off and mind her own.

In otherwords halilllly, piss off you are a moron.

Can I clarify something?

Doesn't the Turkish Exclussive Economic Zone lies somewhere between southern Turkish coast and the northern Cypriot coast?

So what you are saying Halil is that both sides should freeze everything until there is a deal? No new building, no new roads, no exploitation of natural resources, no anything?

Under what laws does Turkey have rights to resources south of the island?

Lebanon is only complaining about a few square kilometres that both they and Israel claim, which looks as though it will be sorted out by the UN.
