Here is another local joke. (True Fact actually)

Kiti Community Council in Larnaca insist you pay for a cemetery plot (Kimitirio) if you own a property and are not a resident.

Hence if you own another property on the island and are choosing to pay a yearly fee for a cemetery plot at that location, it is of not of their concern.

So, I suggested to my children when I die to bury 1/2 my body at Kiti Cemetery and the other half at the other location!

This is a reasonable solution don't you think!

Maybe you are confusing something? Why would they ask for such thing if you are not a resident there? So if you live in Paphos or Australia and you just have property in Kiti why would you be buried in Kiti once you die? Obviously you didn't understand something correctly.

Sotos, I think you don't understand. The community councils here try to rip off every foreigner with the stupidest of rules.

They are doing the same in Oroklini where they demand you pay for a plot. As many are british people with perhaps no intention of being buried here, they still make them pay. Another sick government rule makes me want to puke. All the local councils are made up of peasants who do not give a shit about anything than their month pay. Many councils are way over staffed with relatives, charge the earth for shit service (infact I should not have said service, there is none) and they are doing us all a favour. I am Cypriot, and it makes my stomach turn. I hate these people.
