Charleroi to Amsterdam is about 4 hrs by train - Brussels to Amsterdam is nearly 3 hours, even by the fast Thalys express. It is further than people think!

Bruges or Ghent are a better bet - about an hour or so. Bruge is very nice.

Sotos,

You could also give Bruges a visit, which is quite easy to get to from Brussels. Very quaint place with canals tours and great shops and of course the beers. It's also within reach of the WW1 Somme battlefields and museums.

I will have a look at Bruges. Has anybody traveled with Ryanair from Larnaca before? I wonder if I should bother with Priority Boarding. I am reading mixed opinions about it and it seems a lot depends on the airport. In some airports Priority Boarding gives you an advantage, in other airports it doesn't.

You shouldn't be using these dodgy foreign airlines where they charge you to go to the toilet! Use our national airline, Goat Airways, if you are lucky they won't be on strike and it should only cost you 2 or 3 times as much.

Don't bother with priority boarding in Larnaca. If you're 5 minutes late you'll loose it and will have to get in line, unless you are really early.

Be late where? I always arrive at the airport about 1 hour before departure ... but I guess you mean something else?

Do you know if there is a fast train linking the two cities? To what other cities around Brussels I could go for a day trip?

Sorry Sotos, can't help you with train info to Amsterdam, but if you are going to Brussels this weekend, you could go and watch the Formula 1 race this weekend.

I meant arriving late at the airport. Priority boarding is a waste of money if you're flying alone. Ryan Air is like a bus...no assigned seats. I do the 1 from Weeze (Germany) regurarly to Larnaca. I know that Charlois (Brussels) is about 60km away from Brussels but there are trains that take you to Brussel. With the train from Brussel to Amsterdam will take you 2 hours and 45 minutes.
