The Turkish Cypriot Daily Yeni Volkan 16/08/2011 reports that the Republic Of Cyprus has issued European Arrest Warrants against presons or local and foreign organisations which invest in the occupied part of Cyprus on occupied Greek Cypriot property.
Organisations against which the lawsuits have been filed are HSBC Bank, Turk Bankasi, AGA Development Ltd, Levantine Property Company and Unwin Real Estate Agents.
According to the paper, European Warrant of Arrest has also been issued against the following persons, Aziz Kent, Huseyin Caginer, Mark Unwin, Turham Beydagli, Michele Hunt, Terence Wilkins, Ian Smith, Linda and David Orams. The most recent person to be deported from the UK to Cyprus for dealing in Greek Cypriot property in North Cyprus is Gary Robb, who is under arrest in the Cyprus capital Nicosia.
Linda and David Orams were the English couple who had built a villa illegally on Greek Cypriot owned land. The legal owner was Greek Cypriot Meletios Apostolides. The Orams engaged Cherie Blair, the wife of ex British premier Tony Blair to handle their defence.
The Orams eventually lost the case, and were ordered to pay €600,000 in legal costs, and were ordered to demolish the villa, and return the land to Meletios Apostolides, and pay him damages. They went to appeal, and the appeal was turned down.
Due to the fact that the Orams failed to give back the land, and compensate the legal owner, a decree was issued to the British courts to place a charge on their British home. The Orams appealed against the decision, but failed in their appeal. The courts ordered that they obey the decision made by the Cyprus courts.
The Orams were required to apply for an application to demolish the villa with the North Cyprus authoriies, which they fulfilled. The authorities were handling the application.
