But the T/Cs complain they are a minority in the north. So the actual settler population must not be included as "TRNC" citizens. That's why there's so much anxiety in the north about all these settlers about to be given "citizenship". It confirms the T/C's minority status. This is Turkey's punishment for all those T/C protests.

I AGREE! The diaspora of Cyprus are not all willing emigrants. Some of us stayed away precisely because of the conditions brought about by the invasion. In short we could not hope to find work in Cyprus. This applies equally to GCs and TCs. We deserve the vote on far more legitimate grounds than any imported Anatolian peasant.

The census above was in 2006 my friend, and if you search the net you will only find "preliminary" results. The reason is the final results have been cooked in Turkey so nobody trusts them. But the preliminary results are not so trustworthy either if you ask me. Hell we had about 147,000 "votes" in the Anan Plan just 2 years before (if my memory is correct) so how could the total population be 178K??

what's surpriing is the number of people staying at the occupied though which is about 100K more, those are Univerity students, foreigners and settlers without "citizenship"

There is a widespread beleif that the real Kibrislis are in fact about 80K only for example here's what a Kibrisli said in this forum some time ago

Another thing I would like to point out is, in NC the current population is approximately 250k. Of that number, 120k is immigrants from Turkey. 50k military personnel from Turkey, and only 80k are actual TC's. Many TC's moved out of cyprus and still do because of the economic and political path of the existing system. It is uncertain what percent of the Turkish settlers support Denktash. I guess we will find out wihin a month :) I strongly believe that almost %95 of the actual TC's support the contrariety.

When I was in Cyprus last (2007) I was talking to a TC whom I spent some time with also visiting the occupied area. He told me back then that he believed the real population of TCs' in the occupied area is around 55,000. He is also one of the TC's who lived Morphou area with his family prior to the Turkish invasion of 1974 and remained there. He doesn't like what he sees happening to OUR Country.

Here's some more information I found.

According to statistics released by the Republic of Cyprus in June 2007 and accurate as of May 2007: 49156 Turkish Cypriots currently have Republic of Cyprus passports; 79497 have Republic identity cards and 90920 have Republic birth certificates.
