FM ÖZGÜRGÜN SAYS EXPLORATION ACTIVITIES ILLEGAL

The Greek Cypriot Side’s oil and gas exploration activities off the coast of the island are being watched closely by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün announced yesterday that they were watching closely the Greek Cypriot Side’s unilateral and illegal oil and gas exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot-Greek duo continued their provocative actions and statements despite all warnings, the TRNC Foreign Minister reminded that the so-called Republic of Cyprus which has been under the sole control of the Greek Cypriots since 1963 did not have the right to represent or decide on behalf of the Cyprus Turkish people.

He therefore added that all bi-lateral agreements signed without the consent of the Cyprus Turkish side were null and void and that the current exploration activities being carried out were as a result illegal.
