Turkey's Foreign trade deficit soars by 79.2 percent in June

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

noted the Turkish stock exchange has gone from >91000 on Jan 26 to <72000 today - indeed looks more like a roller coaster at Alton Towers - up and down then broken..

Not only the index has gone down by about 20% from it's highs in January, but so has the Turkish Lira gone down about 20%, so anyone who bought into the Turkish stock market with Turkish Liras in January, has lost about 40% of their money today.

I referred to the lack of innovation as a fundamental problem of Turkish industry in past posts.

From an area I know well and have studied for years it is clear that the "investors" who moved their outdated plants to Turkey were not investing, they were buying time to modernize their plant and machinery back home. Now the same firms proudly display "Made in Italy" stamps on the products and are ditching their "designed in Italy, made in Europe" models. They used their profits from their Turkish "investments" to acquire the latest CNC machines and train their staff in CAD-CAM design. They also trimmed their staff. Companies with more than 1000 employees now have less than 300 while their production increased and their product quality improved.

Anyone who thought that advanced western societies were going down in a globalised spiral was dreaming.

But we do worry.

Turkey's political travails and faltering expansion have eroded a winning narrative of a booming country with EU accession aspirations and strong government, Friedman said. "There's a good chance that the damage has already been done. It's very hard to recover from a period where all the signals to investors are that things are unstable," he said.

...how to make short term debt look like long term debt? Take out loans one or two days longer than a year...

its very simple, some countries are too important for yank interests and will be backed to the hilt. israel is the first one and terggy is the second. how many times do we have to say it, do not worry.

The difference between Greece and Turkey is that brilliants minds in Greece are out of jail and in Turkey they are inside jail or bombed when they try to protest or bring social change.
