Public workers’ wages up 3 pct, food prices up 14
While the average civil servant's wages rose a mere 3 percent over the last year, food prices saw a 13.9 percent increase in the same period, a recent report released by the Public Workers' Labor Union (Kamu-Sen) has shown.
In a press release issued Monday, Kamu-Sen president İsmail Koncuk shared the details of the report and warned of further deterioration in the economic well-being of public personnel.
Koncuk said the amount of veal that a public worker with an average wage can afford with his/her full salary slumped from 80.9 kilograms in 2014 to 67.5 kilograms in 2015.
The "yearly loss" of a civil servant has reached to 703 kilograms in onion, 391 kilograms in orange, 241 kilograms in tomato, 191 kilograms in potato, 181 kilogram in eggplant, 94 kilogram in strawberry and 8 kilogram of cheese, Koncuk maintained.
Retired public workers with a pension worth TL 1,400 in May last year, got only TL 1,442 in May of this year, the report said.

Turkey’s May exports down nearly 20 pct due to major strikes
A 19 percent drop in Turkish exports was primarily due to major strikes that took place at several large automotive factories, resulting in temporary halts in production, according to an announcement from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) on Monday.
Total exports slipped to $10.8 billion for the month, while automotive exports receded by a 27.4 percent margin, down to $1.48 billion in May. TİM said the industry sustained more than $500 million dollars in export and production losses.
