Turkey's Foreign trade deficit soars by 79.2 percent in June

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Actually, it is 3.41 at the moment.

If you call the TL losing almost 50% of it's value against the GB Pound and other major currencies in the last 5 years as insignificant, despite GBP having lost some of it's own value in recent times, then hang onto your Turkish Liras, Lordo. :D

Who knows, TL might become a major currency one day, then again.....!

Turkey’s Political Power Struggle Whips Markets

Turkey’s escalating political tensions whipped markets Monday, with investors particularly punishing companies seen on the firing line in a tug of war between the country’s prime minister and an influential Islamic cleric.

The lira hovered around near a record low against the dollar as Turkey’s two-year benchmark bond yields jumped to 9.76% from 9.61% on Friday. The benchmark stock index BIST-100 extended losses by dropping 2.14%, while the cost of insuring Turkey’s debt, measured by its five-year credit default swaps, or CDS, climbed to above 221 basis points on Monday, the highest level since mid-September.

The Turkish Lira was royally fcuked by the major currencies today and there is no end in sight!

Only a year or so ago we were told a lot of fairy stories about the TL, which some of the most gullible friends here on the CF swallowed it as being factual. No need to mention names now, is there?

Blast from recent past.

TL sign.jpg

Lira’s symbol reflects power of economy, Erdoğan says.

This is a signal of ‘power, prestige and independence.

A new symbol was needed to solidify the lira’s prestige, the Central Bank governor adds.

“The new icon resembles an anchor, which emphasizes that the lira has become a safe investment haven,” said Başçı.

Adding that the parallel lines of the new design faced upward, which symbolized the steadily increasing value of the lira and the Turkish economy.
