lightbulbs - bayonet or screw

Postby supporttheunderdog » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:04 pm

Something bedevilling Cyprus are the two different styles of demestic light bulb - namely the UK style bayonet cap and the continental style screw thread type (in two sizes). This is something that could probably synchronised far easier than plugs and sockets: personally I'd be happy to adopt the screw-bulb.

Are there safety reasons against?

We should ask the resident expert on electrical matters, Sotos!

I have some knowledge of this subject and don't think there is any safety issue involved between bayoneting and screwing.

I would say that you should leave the Compact Fluorescent bulbs alone, they contain mercury and obviously have disposal problems,

Go for LEDs, they are more expensive, but last much longer, use much less electricity, and you can just chuck them away.

I say the government should force everybody to install light fixtures that take bayonet type bulbs... those that want to use screw type bulbs can use an adapter ;)

Either of them is ok . I dont think there are any safety reason against anyo of them but I am not electrician. For me the screw type is much easire to install only this..
