More misleading advertisements for "North Cyprus"

Postby Jerry » Thu Jul 28, 2011 1:30 pm

Looks like both Larnaca and Paphos are part of "North Cyprus" according to this ad since flights from the UK are direct.

According to NCFP "Direct Traveller" (with all the name implies) are also promoting holidays in "North Cyprus" with TV advertisements.

Looks like another job for the ASA!

Sir

Do your tell your clients that s called TRNC only came about as a result of the inavsion of Cyprus by Turkey in 1974, is onlty rercognised by Turkey, and that in many cases the hotels or villas (or tjhe land they are built on) they are likey to stay in are stolen from the legitimate Cypriot owners who were driven out and/or massacerd by Turkish troops, and who have further been displaced by thousands of illegals from Turkey, as a relt of a policy of ethnic cleansing ?

Fly via Turkey

The more conventional route to North Cyprus is to fly to Ercan airport, with flights touching down in Turkey for approximately 40 minutes. Note: There is no change of aircraft required while you remain seated during the courtesy touchdown.

Although flying time is slightly longer than travelling to Larnaca, transfer times from Ercan airport to Kyrenia and Famagusta are only approximately 40 minutes.

✔ Flights are via a brief courtesy touchdown in Turkey (no change of aircraft required)
✔ All flights are with scheduled airlines operating from 4 main airports
✔ Shorter comfortable air-conditioned transfers to both Kyrenia and Famagusta
✔ No border crossings required
✔ Low cost duty-free outlets available at the airport

What the hell is a "courtesy touchdown"? :?

Why not call it,

a)"non-stop touchdown" !

b) "legal touchdown" !

c) "almost there touchdown" !

d) "no permit touchdown" !

Yes Kiks, strange also that "North Cyprus" is never called "The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" in the ads and all the main towns/sites are given their Greek names. It looks as if they are trying to disassociate themselves from Turkey, I wonder why?

Yes, Jerry, it is very Kosher to call it "North Cyprus" rather than "The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", or else people will not be able to locate it on the map or bring up the past. This way it sound as if all is well in Cyprus with just a "North and a South" like in any other Holiday Destinations, like North of France/South of France and so on.

I still want to know what the hell is a "courtesy touchdown".

Who knows, it may now be used in the NFL, American Football, that they would start calling their scores from a "touchdown" to "courtesy touchdown"!

I think they are trying to build on the already existing Cyprus' good reputation on tourism.I mean when a foreigner hears about Cyprus, asks friends about holidays in Cyprus etc, he will get excellent recommendations but all those will be actually referring to the RoC controlled area!!
