employee question

Postby Kikamika » Wed Jul 27, 2011 9:02 am

I would like to ask you if anybody knows anything about this subject..
Used to work for a company about 3 years , now because of some circumstances lets say my department need to be close , so and my position of course , but the employer in case not to fire me plan to offer me to stay in that company and continue to work but something different, other position. The point here is that I do not want because I do not like cos is not in my field, so I prefer to be fire instead to go to work 1-2 month something different and eventually to leave by myself.
Do I have right in case they stop me from my position I hold, I prefer to be fire and to take unemployer letter to register in the office until I find something by myself and sure to take 2 or 3 salaries in once or as much I have to take by loan, not sure...? or in case they offer me to work something else I do not have rights for any requirements?

Hope you understand me what I mean, thanks in advance

If you have a proper contract with a job description, you should be able to refuse a change of job. Probably best to just discuss it with your employer.

Hi ,please see this link relating to Cyprus employment law http://www.ilo.org/public/english/dialo ... cyprus.htm

Sounds like your current position is being made redundant, in which case due to your length of service you should be entitled to 4 weeks notice and you may be due some redudancy payment from the government, provided of course all you social insurance payments are up to date. As CBBB says probably best to discuss with your employer and try and reach an amicable agreement, hope this helps and good luck

Thx a lot, sure is best to speak with employer , but believe me sometime is very hard to speak with them , most are not professional at all... never say something direct. I hear words as ''we ll see, we do not know yet, siga siga etc ...'' never knows, never is clear and so on.
I do not have writen contract, it was just agreement between. but I have all social iunsurance paid and all looks regular. About the 4 weeks notice is seems ok ...cos anyway my paid holiday is next month.

Didn't know that link , I'll have a look now in details, is looks very useful
thank you much ;)

your welcome, look at the link, it says that you don't necessarily need a written contract as a verbal agreement such as you have will suffice, understand your concerns and the replies that you get from your boss, he's side stepping the issue so he doesn't have to do anything...... once again good luck

Alright, well half of what you wrote I didn't understand but my advice is, if you want to leave from your current job, it's better to stay there until you find another one. Have it to pay your expenses while you're looking for a better one, cause honestly? It's tough to find one these days in Cyprus.

Emm go to unemployment office, they can tell you what to do and help you search a job. Arrange some interviews and see what you can find. If you have complaints about your boss or you think he's unfair with you or you simply want more information about what to do with your job you can go to social security office and say anything you want, they will help you. You can also call work relations office and asked them for some information.

I already have a job but it's not what I thought it would be and I want to quit but I have a loan to pay and I can't. So I'm searching this month for another job. And it's pretty tough. My boss can't pay me and I'm under pressure, but I'm hopeful and I try hard to get one decent job. I already fought with my boss and nothing came positive, not to mention that he didn't put me any social securities from the day I started working there. So, when I get the chance to leave my job I will report him for that and for not giving me the basic salary.

We work hard and we deserve to get what we want...

I understand you , and I do not want to be without job ofcourse, I know is extremely hard to find nowadays job.
My enquiry it was - lets say if u r architect in one company but they are about to close that department but they still didnt fire me and offer me to make other job in that group of companies , to be a sale person for example....which im not happy with.
So I prefer to be fire and take my compensations but I do not know if I have the right or they just make me trap by offering me other position and later on will gonna say '' but we do not fire you , we offer u to stay and you reject, so we dont pay u ''.. etc sort of :D
Can't explaine you better with my English :D anyway

It's ok :)

Well if they said that you have to change your job, to let's say from architect to a salesperson and you refused, they can fire you but they don't have the right not to pay you! Em it's really obvious that they take advantage of people because they don't have the money or they just find excuses to save their asses. To be honest, I'm an Interior Decorator and this job that I have it's nothing like I imagined. I work at a furniture store and I'd rather do anything else for more money than clean, and be a secretary and a saleswoman the same time to some men who don't pay me enough or respect me for doing all the work.
Okay I need the money but not this way.

The best thing to do is to find a better job, if in tough times they don't respect your opinion then it's probably time to leave. But hung on and do some research before you leave cause a lot of people can't pay their employees...
