Here IS your water! At what cost?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Here IS your water! At what cost?

Kıbrıs Postası is reporting on the supply of water to the north of the island.......with proviso's.

Cutting a long story short, TC's are screwed, yet again.

I will not translate the whole article, but a few pointers are:

The areas where the project will be built (whatever that is), shall become the property of the Republic of Turkey, including all the land where the water carrying pipes will run.

All personel involved in the construction of the terminal and related areas are to be brought over from Turkey.

All tenders have already been offered to Turkish companies.

There is much more, but I feel too angry to read any further.

Did any TC 'leader' agree to any of this? No doubt, they would even sell their motners if they have done this.

The terms of this deal are outrageous.... and will rightly be condemned by all CYs.

We can condemn all we want, won't make any difference, what we need is the application of international law and the Geneva convention on Human rights. But since the UN/US/UK are arse kisses to turkey what do you expect. I agree with Humanist, needs tough action by the international community to stop these barbarians shitting on every one. Today Cyprus, tomorrow, who knows.

I wasnt exactly seeking sympathy, but may have sounded like that. I am just angry at the so called TC leaders who have agreed to such an arrangement. There is more about 'mortgages' but am not sure of the technical terms they use. Perhaps there are others who might have the gall to translate. It should appear in the GC press soon.

No S***.

The tender was not to be offered to Cypriots, was one other point. İ think any mortgage to be covered by TCs (i think) it in legal jargon, damn it.

All workforce from Turkey as İ mentioned before, more setlers methinks. The deal is for thirty years.

all profits have always gone to Turkey if any, we need to stop thinking that our 'puppet leaders' will stand up for us, they DO NOT see themselves as cypriots but 'TURKS' so why should they care, this has been the prinicpal delusion TC.s have lived through ;that we are part of a representative, particapatory democracy! We are not, so why be upset when we hear about these news. Instead we need to channel our anger and energies into de-ligitimizing our puppet regimes becuase thats what they are, illegitimate. How can we expect transparency and democracy from men and women who do not even condemn barbaric police violence against peaceful protesters and hand out ID cards to any Hassan and ayse that happens to be shipped over. Economic control/privatisation is all part of the Turkish strategy for control of Cyprus, there is no distinction between politics/economics in the 'TRNC', its all part of the same fascist shite Cyprus has been subjected to for decades.

Hi Deniz,

Hate to say "I told you so" but in several posts past I had pointed out the danger of relying for a vital resource like water on any foreign nation, no matter how friendly that nation is.

In that same thread, in which you participated if I remember correctly, it was stressed that Cyprus was always short of water and that the way forward lies with locally controlled technology like desalination, grey water use, conservation and imporved agricultural use.

But once more the patriotic blinkers are on and TCs are off and running. It would be interesting to hear snippets of conversations of the proverbial "man in the street" to hear what the average TC feels about these grandiose Turkish schemes for their future.

Every time I hear the subject of water in our arid area the story of the repatriated old Greek man comes to mind. He comes back to his village after years in the US where he managed to make no money. The villagers think he is rich and pander to his every whim so he can "bring the water". They even get a young girl, Mario< to marry him and convince him to will money to the village to "bring the water". Well, aided by the vigors of young Mario, the dude kicks it and they open his will at a meeting of all the village dignitaries, you know the scene: priest, cop, teacher, moukhtar, etc. And his will reads:

TO God I leave my soul

To Mario I leave my pole

And to the village I leave my balls

So they can make water falls

The story seems to foretell the fate of the water in the north
