Time for the Turkish Cypriots to Break Away

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Time for the Turkish Cypriots to Break Away

Postby Hermes » Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:20 am

With brewing tensions between Turkey and the settlers on one hand and the T/Cs on the other, isn't it time to form a united front against Turkey with the aim of negotiations with pro-solution T/Cs and not Eroglu/Turkey?

Is it time for the Turkish Cypriots to break away from the "TRNC" and form a shadow government that represents the Kibrislis - and not the settlers or Turkey - and that could begin negotiations with the RoC for a federal solution?

Shouldn't our next move then be to seek EU backing for negotiations with an alternative T/C leadership, sidelining Turkey, leading to a solution that could be presented to Turkey on a take-it-or-leave-it basis? Especially if such a solution is linked to Turkey's EU accession? Surely it's time for the negotiations to be truly Cypriot-owned?

This thought was inspired by comments made by Pyrpolizer in another thread. I'm sure he won't mind my quoting them here:
It's becoming more and more obvious that the CYprob is more of a problem of the Cypriots (Kibrislis & Kypreos) Vs Turkey rather than a problem between us.

How do you suggest we should proceed? I don't think there is any other way other than building a UNITED FRONT.

My suggestion would be for the REAL KIBRISLIS to neglect the leadership the settlers imposed on them (I mean Eroglu) and establish a SIDE GOVERNMENT made purely from votes coming from Real Kibrislis. Civil disobedience to the Eroglu administration should come next.

The most STUPID thing the RoC is doing is discussing with Eroglu and even acknowledging him as the real and democratically elected LOL leader of the Kibrislis!! This is nonsense, everybody knows he was not elected with the votes of the real Kibrislis, but with the votes of the settlers.

Well let's face it what sort of dodgy leader is this Eroglu...?

What's the pop of the Occupied Areas? ... less than 100,000 indigenous CYs and three times (?) that number of Illegal Settlers. So whose interests is he gonna serve?

... and what has Erroglu had to say in recent days about the outbursts from his master Erdogan.... ? ... Bugger All!

...and what has this Puppet Erroglu had to say about CY protesters being roughed up on the streets of Occupied Nicosia this past week? ... Sod All!

Hardly representative of the CYs living in the Occupied Areas.

it is the time to take control of our ethnosphere which includes a wide array of distinctive expressions, culturally; i say Maronites, and Armenians for the same reasons warrant the self representation needed for their identities to sustain themselves. Bizonally, this can be done with enclaves, and in terms of Greeks and Turks both provide services island-wide. There are many fururistic advantages to a diversity like this, where we overcome the barriers internally, we are more adept at communicating externally in our social-exchange with global partners.

we need by some miracle a Greek Leadership who will form their National Assembly to be an equal to any of the other National Assemblies that are founded. we need by some miracle a President who can divest himself of his/her personal identity, because it is as an Individual that we voted for them(him/her) .

Enclaves are a non starter for me, without financial backing nothing is possible, our financial dependence on Turkey w'll always give them the advantage over the GCs, painful but true Add to this your financial crisis and you stand no chance of getting TCs to "break away" as you call it.

Not you, but TCs, are incapable of making money? Don't give me BS about embargoes, TCs have the ability to sell anything they can produce, one way or another. You have the same access to the EU that Turkey does.

Direct flights? You have them through Larnaca, in most countries you have to travel twice as far to get to an international airport.

Cyprus financial crisis? Are we getting handouts?

I think it is about time that you got the single brain cell that you share with YFronts back and then you might have some sort of understanding of what is going on in the world.

You obviously dont have a clue..do you know the cost of selling through Turkey? and why Turkey cannot buy our goods?

Larnaca is a foreign country to us why should we be forced to bring tourists via another country be it Turkey or South Cyprus?

I think you should get a brain it might help with trying to understand why we are financial dependent on Turkey and why we will never be able to "break away" and unite with GCs.

The funny thing is ,Bill, this time the puppet is leading the puppeteer...Eroglu was saying he same things long before Erdogan...Erdogan has now caught up with the right wing ,nationalist TC thinking...What he is saying is music to their ears...And I am not sure what Eroglu said,if anything, about the police treatment of the protestors, but the PM,Kuchuk said the Police did a good job maintaining order,or words to that effect...

I also read somewhere that Erdogan has demanded that all the settlers legally present in the trnc be made citizens of the breakaway state...I cannot imagine the UBP government resisting such a demand...So the situation is getting to the point of no return...Unless a solution is found soon to reunite the island, and limit the number of settlers living in Cyprus,Partition will be fait accompli...And dont waste your time with impossible senarios...The overwhelming majority of the remaining TCs will never break away from Turkey...As far as they are concerned the GCs have stolen their rights in the ROC,and did nothing (but the absolute minimum) for the TCs in the past 37 years except kicking the TCs in the teeth every time they tried to assert themselves internationally...It is time you people realised what dire straights your pre and post-74 actions have placed the TCs,and stop rubbing salt into their wounds...

Thank you Hermes for starting a new topic on this. I am obviously very lousy in starting topics anyway...
VP you mostly base your objections on the fact that you are financially bound to Turkey.
First of all it is the administration that is bound to Turkey by some about $ 1-2 billion per year. With a side Government you are not bound anymore.
Bir hello once again and welcome back.
The slogan that the "GCs stole our rights" is very old . It might have had some meaning in the 60s but not after 1974 although it continued been cultivated by Denktash even after 1974. After the opening of the gates I don't think there are many Kibrislis left thinking of this to be anything near to what was stolen from the Kypreos.

You may say that what the RoC has done for them after 1974 is the minimum, I say it was the maximum possible. If you disagree then tell us what else could it have done.

I agree that Eroglu was saying the same things long before Erdogan, even in a milder way. The question is WHO IS EROGLU???
Is he really the true representative of the Kibrislis???
