British sence of humar !!!

Postby fig head » Sat Jul 23, 2011 5:58 pm

British comidies are probably hard for foreigners to get., specially that the sense of sarcasim is well connected to British curlture.
It toke me a while to actually laugh and understand why british comdies are funny! The 1st British comedy i ever watched was the office years back i thought i is dead stupid, dead unfunny and waste of time... now i probably prefere British comides than American comides.

Here are one of my favorite Briish comidy scenes. hope you enjoy it.

Yes they are all Katherene Tate ... she is a legend

Figgy, when you find time look up some older GB classics... Monty Python, The Two Ronnies, Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses, Victor Meldrew in One foot in the Grave etc ...... should all be available on youtube.

Some of the best British comedy was built around pathos - "Only Fools and Horses" was in that vein : try for example the vintage Steptoe and Son, who were traders several rungs further down the ladder than Del Boy.....and they managed to be funny without resorting to swearing - something that quite put me off the so-called alternative comedy of the 80's.

Also try some of the clasic radio comedy - The Goon show, Round the Horne, I'm sorry i'll read that again, I;m sorry I havn't a clue to name a few from the 50's onwards -

This post is bizarre as I only mentioned to my other half, today, how great British comedy is. The best ones are:

Monty Python (already mentioned);
Fawlty Towers (you need to look at the hotel boards at the start of the programmes: 'Flowery Twats' is a classic);
The Office (already mentioned);
The League of Gentlemen;
Steptoe and Son.

If you like British comedy, try 'Frasier', as well. It's an American comedy but it's not the zany, puerile crap like other shows and is very British.

The greatest comedies of all are the old 'Laurel and Hardy' classics.

Del Boy's favourites here, http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/onlyfools/lingo/euro.shtml

My favourites, "The world is your lobster Rodney" and from Kennedy's to Berliners, "ich bin ein bin liner".

And of course his interpretation of "Coq au vin"
