There are a lot of small countries which are members of NATO and contribute little. They gain a lot - SECURITY.

Well, they contribute a fair bit themselves actually. They contribute political legitimacy to the organisation.

New Zealand is a member of ANZUS and it has a smaller military than Cyprus. In case you're wondering, the alliance doesn't expect anyone to go into war. It's just a Defence Pact not an attack Pact.

Yes it is true. Russia does want to join NATO. But at the moment, quite a few NATO members would have a fit at the thought.
