Fit some low energy light-bulbs that give out light without anywhere near the heat of traditional light-bulbs.

If you are using AC set it at 25C and keep all doors closed.

We bought large floor standing fans a while ago, as aircon is too cold for us at night, the fans are fine, use less electric and keep you cool enough. Ceiling fans in the bedrooms as long as they are big ones work perfectly.

We have,nt put the aircon on since the disaster neither will we until told its ok.

When power is off, chat too neighbours and friends for a couple of hours the time passes quicker and you get to know people better, we are all in the same boat.

Another tip is fill some empty water bottles with water and put in freezer, when power goes off put these bottles in the fridge to keep it cooler longer. But do it as soon as power goes off, as you don,t want to open the door of freezer when the temp is decreasing.

would it be a good idea to see which building do not yet have solar powered water heating.get government to subsidise the cost, of those who do not, we all wash (i hope) any form of immersion wastes power.
I see many houses/apartments in my travels that still heat water this way.Cyprus has sun all year cheap water heating, cheap power.
we have the technology.
