How can we deny the Kurds autonomy and self-rule when Turkey demands the same thing for Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus? Either we respect the territorial integrity of Cyprus or we should not complain when the Kurds demand a federal state in Turkey.

Erdogan could end the "Kurdish problem" tomorrow. All he has to do is offer the Kurds a veto over all key executive and legislative decisions; control of 30 per cent of the land; a rotating presidency and 30 percent of government jobs. And a new confederal state consisting of Western Turkey and Kurdistan. It's such a brilliant plan I wonder why nobody has thought of it before...

Read the comments. They are extremely interesting.

No matter what Kurds and Turks decide note that this is the single development with the most influence on the Cyprus' Turkish problem.

More on my blog.

The Turkish society at large may not realize it but your leaders, since 1959, have shared their thinking with Cypriots about majority [circa 80%] - minority [circa 20%] relations in a unitary state. Today they support a confederation disguised as a federation instead, as a possible solution to the same problem. Turks must ask their leaders 1] if good enough for the Turkish Cypriot minority, then why not for the Kurds? 2] were we fair to the majority in Cyprus in 1959? How about in 1963? How about today? 3] do we have more in common with Greek Cypriots in terms of interests as opposed with Turkish Cypriots? - In my opinion, Turks must demand that the file CYPRUS - FACT AND FICTION is opened! You will be surprised how relevant Turkey's thinking is to your attempts to seek a peaceful solution to the problem with the Kurds. You may want to start how the majority's statesman [leave your prejudices aside] attempted to bring some sense into a constitution, imposed on the majority at the insistence of Turkey [!] in 1963. The result was a move by the minority Cypriots not dissimilar to the Kurdish move of today. I hope you study the letter.

@Meat Don't distort the situation. The Turkish Cypriots are protesting on the streets because they want Turkish troops to leave Cyprus. Don't you know what is going on? They are not fooled anymore by the propaganda that Turkey invaded the island for their benefit. Turkey is in Cyprus to expand its territory and control its resources. Grow up! Even our own Foreign Minister says it!

Meat Kurds were also subjected to worse treatments. their options was either to deny their culture and roots and become Turks or their villages destroyed and made refugees or end up dying in Diyarbaker prison

How can Turkey deny its own minority their human rights then at the same time demand that the Turkish Cypriot minority in Cyprus have 30 percent of Cypriot land, a rotating presidency, a veto on the Cyprus government and their own state? Would Erdogan give the Kurds the same rights he demands for the Turkish Cypriots? This is blatant hypocrisy! Turkish Cypriots should have the same rights we are prepared to give the Kurds. No more. No less. How can we criticize the Kurds when we set them such an example in Cyprus? I'm sorry, but our stupid policies in Cyprus risks breaking Turkey apart and it is our own fault!
