So much for the Cypriots trying to blame this on the UN, US or UK..... they refused multiple offers of help!

They did not want to upset the Russians as Russian interest on the island far outweign all the above put together!

You are a foreigner so all I can say to you is: None of your business ;) If you are British, American or Israeli then you should see the responsibility of your government on this problem since if it wasn't for those governments those explosives would never come to Cyprus. Please leave Cyprus out of your Imperialist war games with the Arabs!! :(

What a daft thing to say. Whatever happened to freedom of speech. Would she be allowed to comment if she was personally affected by the tragedy?

I'm a semi Cypriot, am I allowed to express my views on the subject? According to you, Sotos, the British are responsible but Brits are not allowed to comment. I bet if BB had condemned British involvement in this affair you would have welcomed her post.

Regardless of how the munitions arrived on the island once the ROC had taken possesion it was that country's duty to make sure they were safely stored.

There are two parts on this story. First half is how Cyprus was forced to take this munition and second part is how our government handled the munition once it was here. Our government has huge responsibility for the second part. The Americans have huge responsibility for the first part. And if the first part had not happened and the ship just went to Syria then there wouldn't even be a second part.

Once the explosives were on Cypriot soil it was in our national interests to dispose or secure them safely. Why turn down help to do this?

Are the Syrians kindly going to stop the illegal ferry service to the "TRNC" now that we have shown we are willing to blow ourselves up to keep them happy?

It's one thing for Christofias to balance foreign interests, it's another to risk blowing up a chunk of the island because the President is caught between his ideological prejudices and doing the right thing.

As the son of the base's dead commander told the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation. "We had our soldiers guarding explosives of the Syrians. Are we serious?"

Storing volatile explosives in such an area was dangerous and stupid, Christofias should take responsibility for this government's indecision and stupidity.

yes and look at what the Syrians do - they give waepons to terorists and/or use them against their own people - Assad was even more of a killer than Christofias now is - Christofias killled by incompetance, Assad does it deliberately.

There were also offers to make the cargo safe and/or take it off Cyprus which the government refused.

I understand from comments comming through on other fora that attempts may be in hand to gag press reporting of the public protests, with attempted bans on the media attending such events, and Christ Toffee is being compared to Lukashenko, the Belarus dictator.

The media must ignore any such government pressure but must report both it and on the public protests.

Being a foreigner maybe some do not think I have the right to voice my opinion. Never mind that I have lived in Cyprus for over 20 years and have paid hundred of thousands in taxes to the government and rely on that same government to provide me with safety and protection. You are right in that I am not able to vote so I am unfortunately not able to voice my opinion that way. When the incompetence of the trusted servants kills innocent people, destroys part of the infrastructure I helped pay for, and put at risk mine and the lives of my family I do have a right to speak. I am actually far more patriotic towards Cyprus than may Cypriots I know. It amazes me that some people are so ignorant, even after such a glaring show of incompetence, that they continue to bury their heads in the sand, point fingers in the wrong direction, and simply deny the facts. As for whether the president should go the answer is a big YES. In fact the village idiot should have never been elected to start with! We are paying the price for this big mistake daily. Things will not get better until he resigns.

Dear Mr. President,

May I suggest you take a day off and have a healthy one-on-one with your conscience and reflect on what happened (and did not happen), without any TV or outside interference. Just Dimitris contemplating his legacy to his grandchildren.

You will then know what to do. Cypriots will forgive you for the late awakening.

Rest assured, in case you are not reelected, that Cyprus will be just fine tackling her Turkish problem without you. In reality you served history's purpose. It has been proven beyond any doubt that your tCypriot comrades are largely irrelevant, powerless to shape developments positively for Cyprus, mere puppets of Turkey's mild and not-so-mild fascists. Then again, we knew all along Turkey's true role. I guess we just had to try your approach as well for thoroughness.

Thank you for your services,
A very proud Cypriot
