So what.? Who ever said any percentage is etched in stone. Just because Turkey decided long time before they invaded and occupied 37% of your country, it does not give any of your leaders the say so what amount they are willing to give back. Those days of pre 2004 are over to make such demands. You need to deal with the reality post 2004 to find a solution based on pure numbers, and not on wishful thinking of your past and present so called leaders. They have their own interests and devotion to Turkey, which may not be the same as your average TCs, who may want to live in a country with the same system as the rest of the EU.
The issue is not what the TC leaders wanted, but what is the best way to reach a solution that will fulfill what is needed to make BBF work. You might have gotten away with very high percentage figures for the north state before 2004, like the AP for example, but that is no longer the case since 2004. In any case, why are you so concerned about wanting a larger "piece of the pie" when your main concerns are about maintaining the north to be majority TCs, and also keeping those Upper House seats. The more land you want to keep after a certain amount, the less chance you will have in maintaining a majority TCs from day one, let alone worrying about the GCs "swamping" you in the future.
If the TCs do not trust the GCs in a Democratic, Human Rights, International Law and EU Principles where the TCs will be the majority in the north state based on BBF, then you have a BIG problem which no one will be able to help you. Most certainly not the EU. You may be able to get such counter principles to the above passed by the UN to certain degree, which the AP was a proven case, but you do not stand a chance with the EU, specially now that Cyprus is in the EU. So don't blame anyone else for you not having TRUST. If you cannot trust the above principles, you shouldn't expect anyone else to accept you violating the above principles, except for Turkey perhaps, but even they will need to conform to those principles if and when they want to join the EU, so you see VP, you have no choice but to TRUST the GCs with the above principles for Cyprus. Now, no one said you should not demand everything under the sun to protect all the rights afforded to you, but you won't be able to do it at the expense of others rights by demanding more rights than others. Naturally, the GCs do not TRUST you with what you might do if you were given more rights than they in a system that would counter the above principles. Had the TCs so called leaders were not slaved to Turkey's own "strategic interests" in Cyprus (which for the life of me I cannot see what they could be as long as Cyprus remains a sovereign country), I believe the average TCs can live and TRUST the GCs with the above principles based on BBF, now that Cyprus is in the EU. The only way you are going to have a settlement NOT based on the above principles, is when you and Turkey first convert the rest of the EU away from the above principles. Once you have done that, the rest will be a piece of cake for you and Turkey. I just wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen anytime soon however.
